Good for her ... and the industry. Apple just got too big for the law ... and unilaterally exempted themselves from paying artist royalties during their service's giveaway phase ... the time when MOST people will be using it! Taylor merely said "not mine!". It shows the influence this young woman has on the industry, and I'd bet most artists are envious of her clout.

I don't know why people keep believing Apple was doing something illegal. They were exploiting the language of their contracts that all parties agreed to. Nothing unilateral about it. It was just a poor PR move on Apple's part to save a few bucks this way. Good on TS for taking them to task on it.

Just because a clause is in a contract doesn't make it legal.

This clause is under the section on iTune streaming services (on page 54 of 58)

"(f) Fees for Trials and Comp Accounts. For the sake of clarity, for Trial Users, and for Comp Accounts that ITUNES provides on a gratis basis, no license or royalty fees, including Fees, will be due to COMPANY. "

I may be wrong but this seems to be the offensive part of the contract. It seems pretty clear.
