uh, are we talking a 12 month calender? or one of those 365 days calender? y'know, a bass a day? cuz that'd be awesome... er. also, fewer selections to turn down. you could get a bit of everything in... Fodera's, Elricks, Stammies, down to the Fender's, Squiers, and SX's. everything mixed in. and tearing off the pages everyday... it'd be so exciting!!

There might be less infighting if everybody agreed on some categories and chose one bass for each. That way no one would complain that the calendar is all hippie-sandwiches or J-basses.

Off hand, some categories could be:

1. Best vintage Fender
2. Best vintage "other"
3. Best semi-hollow body electric
4. Best extended range bass (7 strings and up)
5. Best "USA" custom bass (i.e., hippie sandwich)
6. Best non-USA (European/Canuck, etc) custom bass
7. Best "modern" J-bass (Dowsky/Celinder/Nordy, etc)
8. Best upright (there IS another side to TB!)
9. Best electric upright
10. Wackiest bass
11. Maybe a "famous" (celebrity owned) bass.
12. Best Fodera (just kidding!!!!)

Perhaps there could be a thread on each category chosen for the submissions to be narrowed down.

That's not a bad way to weed it down. Set up 12 categories and vote on the submissions for each one.

Of course, giving the sheer number of incredible basses seen here on TB, I think you could do a number of themed calendars:

Vintage basses (Fender, Guild, Music Man, etc)
Boutique Fender style basses (Sadowsky, Celinder, Lull, Nordy, Valenti etc)
Inexpensive to midrange basses (SX, Squire, Peavey, Carvin etc)
Very high end basses (Fodera, Ritter, Jersey Drozd etc)
Small Luthier basses (LeCompte, Stambaugh, Marchlewski etc)
Weird basses (The Budweiser bass posted earlier for example)

But if the point is to just do a single calendar, I like the idea of two pictures per month.

I'm not sure it's calendar worthy, but why not take another opportunity to show off my new Stambaugh? Also, check the link in my signature for some more Stammie goodness.

Not the best quality, but I'll take more when I have more time:

Alright everyone -

I like the idea of 12 categories and then creating a poll for each one.

I've been talking to Paul and given all the amazing basses around here we may have to have a panel to narrow down choices if there are too many.

You could easily make one calendar for each category but that's not what I'm after here. This is a community with a lot of bass players, basses, and styles and I'd like to reflect all of that in a single calendar.

I'm going to get with Paul and see what categories we can come up with and then start polls after we get a few more pics to choose from.

I'll apologize in advanced if your submission does not make it but keep in mind that there are lots of basses here.

Let me play devil's advocate for a minute. I'm not really a fan of the categories idea. I'm guessing I'm not the only one here that is more worried about the quality of the shot than the particular bass in question. I think I would rather look at an amazing photograph of a mediocre bass than mediocre photograph of an amazing bass. Categorizing will surely get the most best representation of basses, but I'm looking at this from an art perspective and think that each photo should be judged on it's merit as a photograph, not the merit of the subject matter. I would hate to see some of these beautiful shots get passed up just because they don't fit into the right category. Just my 2 cents.

Noted. I agree with you that a high high high quality picture is a must and I'd rather repeat a category before putting a mediocre picture on the calendar.

personally i believe my bass is the best looking bass on TB, and if you decide to choose my bass, ill take some better shots :smug: :bassist: :D

IMHO, we don't need to over analyze and micro manage this. Just pick the 12 pics that appeal the most. Done. Keep it simple and fun, I say.

Even if no more pics were submitted, it'd be impossible to come up with a bad calendar, and I bet lots more pics are still coming.

FWIW...
