TB Muscle car thread.

Man I must be an old school old fart, but when I think of muscle cars, I'm thinkin' mid 60's to early 70's iron from Detroit. First thing I think of are a 67-68 Camaro's or Firebird's, then 67-68 Mustang fastbacks... How 'bout posting up some pix of those bad boys?

And let's throw in some old Mopar for good measure!

I love the old muscle. Early F-bodies are my favorite cars. I owned a 79 camaro for 2 months before my insurance was too high to drive it. I loved that car. 350 V8 with a 5 spd manual. That car had serious balls to it.

this is it here. Got it for 2000$cdn. Man I miss this car. Maybe once my 89 is finished I might sell it or trade up for another 79. They are nice.

Dyheat, most younger folks can't afford those much anymore. Damn investors. Nice ride here folks. I picked this one up in 1999, for $5800. All original sheet metal, and a ton of boxes of parts. simply need a home for the 427 I built when I was 17, 21 years prior.

Dont dig workin' on Old Red anymore, and I need to pull the motor to R&R a rear main seal. :( Too much on my plate, some pretty important stuff like survivng Wall Street and starting a revolution in NY thru Link Removed

But, I'll get Old Red back in action right soon. Here's a little l'histoire...its retro muscle kidz, and built for a solider who never made it back to enjoy... to qoute a brother in Cincinatti who rolled his window down to shout it out, its a B-A-M-F!

Here's one of mine. 81 Camaro, runs 10's in the 1/4 mile. All throttle and no bottle. Street tires and mufflers as well.

Other toys of mine include a 68 SS396 El Camino, a 79 Blazer with 44" tires, and wifey's 91 Blazer with 38" tires.

The Skyline is Japan's interpretation of a muscle car... instead of sheer US-style V8 grunt, take a big 4-cylinder or small-ish 6-cylinder, strap a couple of turbos and some electronics to it and turn the boost right up... works pretty well. :D

I love both, personally. My father-in-law's '70 Cuda is an awesome piece of sheer, low-tech automotive brutality, with neck-snapping acceleration and an engine note that makes men go all gooey. Just don't ask it to take a corner quickly! A friend back in the UK has a modded-to-the-teeth R34 Skyline GTR running about 700bhp - we took it to Brands Hatch (racetrack near London that hosts track days) and discovered it goes just as fast as most muscle cars... in any direction, including sideways. :D Doesn't quite have the kudos of a proper Detroit classic though.

I do love the R34 Skyline... amazing looking thing.

Yeah, im a complete fanboy for skylines. And if i play my cards right, I just might be able to afford one by 30-35. For something like 80 K CDN, the new GTR is a deal. That things a beast waiting for feed. Driving in the city though, would suck. Going to gear 2 and back is boring.

But it's such a a shame that picture cant be hotlinked :( EDIT: I can see it now :D I will NEVER get tired of these cars.

Regarding the classic status. As far as im concerned, they've been classics ever since Gran Turismo 2 :D. Prior to the new GTR, you could only get a 15 yo or older skyline into Canada. A friend's friend of mine got a GTS shipped for 8400 CDN a few years back. Although its a gts, that thing was amazing.

They only made the older Skylines in right-hand-drive - is there somewhere that's converting them to LHD?

Also, for what it's worth, the current-generation Skyline is the same car that's sold in the US as the Infiniti G37.... :D

No LHD here. It was a regular RHD R32. Left turns were a bitch he said. He took them slow.
Haha, as a kid growing up, I brainstormed ideas of how to overcome this difficulty. Aside from having someone sitting in the passanger seat, Mounting a small camera on the top left side of the car seemed to be the best option. Ofcourse the camera would be very small, and blend in w/ thefinish, and there'd be some lcd screen inside the car somewhere. :D

Actually, this would make passing and such a lot easier.

Seems as though most of TB can't discern between a Pony Car and a Muscle Car :hmm:
What is the true definition? Realistically speaking, a '94 RX-7, Supra, 3000-GT VR4 or 300ZX would smoke a '70 Chevelle with a 327 and a Powerglide in a long stretch. They'd also, beyond any shadow of a doubt, out handle and out comfort their old counterparts.
