TBOT - Negativity Central

When you listen to music, really listen. Don't put it on as background music.
What if you want background music?
Eat meat, because humans are born carnivores.
No, we're not. But omnivores eat meat and we're born omnivores so we should eat meat.
Learn to recognize who is for you, and who is against you. They are often easily mistake for each other.
And put those who you've decided are against you on the ignore list.

Can you really be sure?

I knew a gal who never smoked, only drank a couple of times, was a semi-devout Christian (lots of those in the Midwest), and was dead by age 27. Cancer isn't picky.
We can all toss around anecdotes. My ex-girlfriend's sister drank like a fish, got Hep C as well, and died in her 40s. She didn't have the "time of her life" along the way either, that's for sure. Alienated the rest of her family, who dreaded inviting her to gatherings for the last 20 years of her life, and pretty much lived in squalor.

The science on the effects of heavy drinking and most (if not all) drugging on the body is well-established.

People can romanticize Lemmy's life all day, but he obviously had a lot of health problems for at least a few years. And for those who aren't rich and/or famous, it's typically a much tougher haul.

Exactly.

I base my life decisions on the preponderance of evidence, not a story here or a story there. The best we can do is find what we love and what we think is important, weigh the benefits and risks, and proceed from there.
Evidence based decision making isn't rock and roll enough for most people.

My dad died of a heart attack at 63 after years of TRYING to quit or cut way back on things that he previously enjoyed like cigarettes and dietary stuff. My mom just won (for now) her second different bout with cancer ... never smoked ANYTHING in her life, but got lung cancer anyway.

I'll try anything at least twice, but moderation is key, & I'm a firm believer in harm reduction for things people are gonna do anyway. No one here gets out alive. That said, I'll be very pleased if something other than lung cancer causes my demise ... then I can gloat "See? I didn't need to quit!"

I love an interview I saw where Lemmy was talking about a young Black kid who was into metal, and was getting crap from friends and relatives. In a nutshell, he said, "F'em, Jimi Hendrix was black and he did fine playing hard rock. You can't live your life trying to please other people and you will only be miserable".

Don't know if it's lemmy or not, but it should be.

1. "Don't sweat the small shite"

2. "It's all small shite"

I'm sure he would have expressed it in a much more metal fashion though.

Ah, someone beat me to the Omnivore comment.
I think a better rule of thumb is to NOT eat food that makes you constantly gassy and smelly. Lita would not approve.

-Smoke, drink, drugs, promiscuous sex to excess, hasten demise

Lemmy was obviously immune to this, though most aren't. I'd rather have fun and die at 70 then be stuffy and boring and die at 100. (what's 30 more years if 100 of them were boring?)
(That being said I'm careful: getting Aids would suck, I don't enjoy being drunk anymore, cigarettes make me feel ill and unfortunately weed wastes my time even though I do really like it- I just have to be smart about when I smoke it)
