TC Electronic RH450, RS210, RS212 Review Thread

The Walkabout is unique IMO. It really, really feels like a 'tube amp'. When you increase the gain, the tone and response and feel changes a lot, and that 'low end bloom' you get with many all tube amps is there in a big way (for better or worse).

The RH450 is much louder, and while very warm and full sounding, doesn't really give you that sort of 'real tube feel' that the Walkabout does (the Walkabout and MPulse360/600's are the only hybrids I've experienced that do this).

I GREATLY prefer the RH450. So much louder, so much punchier, and warm enough to sound a bit 'tubey' if you want it to (although it is more 'Ampeg Tubey' than 'Mesa Tubey'), even though it won't really give you the 'feel'.

I guess that is a little bit interesting. I was never a fan of those flimsy 'bolt on the cabinet' cart things. They get beat to hell quickly, and they don't have good stair walker systems for dragging up and down stairs or over curbs. Also, makes getting a cover for it kind of hard, although maybe they will come out with one that allows you to use the cart.

I would think most would be better off with the standard RS210, the RH450 and a good quality cart like the Kart-a-bag Super 600.

So I had a chance to play through dual rs210's with the RH450, and it's definitely much more to my liking than the 212/210 stack. I'm going to pick up another rs210 for sure, but I just have to figure out if I'm going to keep my 212 as well. It might be nice to have whenever I get the urge to stack all 3 cabinets, but I honestly can't imagine needing to do that. So I might put it up here just to see if someone has an rs210 they want to trade for it.

Anyone? :D

I didn't like the sound of the first amp much when I had a brief chance to play it. But I have to admit, the product development is really very player-oriented and every news update from them has something in it, that makes me feel "nice idea!".

They are expanding their product line really fast.

The new combo looks like simply amazing to me. It combines almost every feature I would want from one. I hope they make the head removable in the near future.

Still, as 2x10" is usually not enough for me live and I did not like the sound too much when I had the change to very briefly play it, it is at the moment too expensive to have just for practice use.

I really like the way amp manufacturers are heading these days. I would kill for 3kg 500W amp that has preamp something similar to the Tech21 BassDriver sound-wise. I feel that day is coming.

Just FYI, the combo is nothing more than the RH450 mounted in the RS210. The 'features' are the same as the separates, which, by definition, have a removable head:)

Regarding tone, it's amazing how the RH450 comes alive with just a couple of clicks of the bass control. I too, was a bit underwhelmed by this head when set totally flat.

Anyone can suggest settings to get Duck Dunn sound ?

The P and flats are already there but I really can't get the sound of Duck on the Blues Brothers records (for example the E on B Movie Box Car blues).

Any hint ?

Anyone want share settings for '60s r'n'b sound ?

I like the trolley idea - mianly because it's removable but tailor made for the cab. Very good.
If you look closely, the head in the combo is still sat on its own feet, so maybe it is removable?
And isn't it great how they re-brand everything - its not the 'RH450 Combo', the head is actually a 'Combo450'. I like that kind of approach. If they separate it out as different, it may just well be a slightly tweaked head like the Staccato '51!? But lets be honest, its probably not...

I really like what they're doing. I've tried out the RH450 and 2 x RS212 and it's the most suitable amp I've found for my needs.

Can't (or, ironically CAN and HAVE TO) wait to own a TC rig. No need for the combo for me though, rather have it separate, and 12"s.

I agree, BECAUSE it is removable, it is a good idea.

I was a bit disappointed by the name though. By calling it "Combo450" instead of "Combo450-10," they seem to be saying that there will not be a combo with 2 12's.

If we could go back to the handling of the cabinet issue for a sec, wouldn't it be much easier to carry if there were just a few more handle placements? Like instead of the two on the sides, what if there were two on the ends as well? I think that would make picking it up and moving it a lot easier, and without so much bending over it to get a grip.

I have found that if you grab one handle and flip it up onto your shoulder, so you are holding the handle on the underside, and the part without the handle on the same side is resting on your shoulder, you can carry it pretty well, and it looks pretty sweet... maybe.

But yes, shaving off 10 pounds would be great. Does anyone know why its so heavy?

Partly due to using non-neo drivers. You typically save about 5 pounds per driver, which would result in the 10 pound difference between these cabs and many of the competition's similarly spec'd cabs.

Read through the whole thread...came in dubious, came out very intrigued.

The combo is looking quite slick to me: integrated wheels, a super-powerful one hand transport (since we can't call it a "carry")...

My question, in small to medium size gigs (a big loud bar say) will the 210 give big booty and warmth for those of us who like it like that?

I know it'll be loud enough, based on what I've read, but will it have big bottom, for a 4-banger in drop-d say?

Thanks to all for the tremendous reportage on this cab btw...very helpful.

I still haven't seen much comment on it for DB, but it sounds like it would be excellent for that too...
