Not really much to it. There is already plenty of protection inside the head, more than a little device like this can supply.

And while this shouldn't happen with something like the RH450, these 15 amp breakers can open unexpectedly and cause problems.

The truth of the matter is that any actual spike that is big and large enough to throw this little switch is going to have damaged the amp anyway to the same extent it would have if it weren't being used. So all you add by using it is the additional risk of it snapping preamaturely for no reason. The same is also true for all "surge" strips and so-called power conditioners.

Maybe you could do me a favor. I'm thinking of using an RH450 with my Accugroove El Whappo. If you get a chance, would you be able to pair them up and write about your impressions? Cheers.

I used my RH 450 tonight at the first rehearsal for an upcoming musical. The book is doubling, with jazz, bossa, and arco parts. I set my presets for the different basses and levels, and everything sounded great! Thanks again TC!

Hi Tom7. The first thing I did was check your profile to see what you would be comparing to (Demeter HB 600). While I am familiar with some Demeter products, I haven't heard this particular amp in person so I'll have to go with the published specs.

I can report that the RH450 has power sufficient to drive the EW to l-o-u-d levels, likely close to what you achieve with the Demeter now. When you push the RH450 even harder towards clipping it does seem to behave a bit more like an all-tube amp. It loosens up a little bit, but also provides a soft tube-like clipping that sounds quite natural.

It's certain that the RH450 lacks some of the Demeter's refinement as far as the preamp is concerned. The Demeter isn't a particularly heavy amp either, so it's going to be a tough call for you. Still, there is a ton of fun in the little RH450 box. I know I'm not the only one who has a lot of love for this amp, so I don't think you would be disappointed.

Does that help, or is there anything more specific you would like to know?

My Demeter + Accugroove gives me a very transparent rig that is magic with my Fbass BN5.

However, I have been thinking about adding a Marcus Miller preamp to the rack to give me compression and color when I'm playing some of my other basses, but I want multiband compression and like the idea of an onboard tuner.

Since the RH450 has both and more, I've been wondering how I could fit it into what I have.

I know it's a bit weird, but I've thought of using the RH450 as a preamp to my existing rig, and then also using it standalone with a 210 cab for a practice rig.

I'm also drawn to the RH450 for its ease of use in international power situations. Couple that with its portability, and it could really be the best road gear ever for a European tour.

Howdy y'all. I am considering getting into the TC Electronics vibe. I currently use an EA IAMP 800 into two Aguilar GS112's. This rig has been loud enough for every gig that Nashville has offered to me so far. However, I have found myself using all kinds of extra gear to get a warmer sound. I have been using a black finger compressor, and a bbe maximizer and sometimes a tube drive. I have been a little unhappy with my blackfinger as after an hour or two of use the tubes are so hot that it farts out on me. This has been a great rig otherwise, but I feel that the tone of the IAMP is a little cold. Great power and punch though, which is what I love.

However, I don't like lugging this gear around. The GS 12's are 42s lb's apeice, and the I Amp, while not heavy, when it is the rack is still a pain to lug with the other stuff.

I have been loving the thought of an Amp that could fit in the pocket of the gigbag I keep my Sadowsky M5-24 in, and a 2X12 that weighs as much as one of my Aggies.

The tone I love is big and ballsy and I mostly play blues, r and b and pickstyle rock. I don't slap much but I prefer tubey sounds and great compression. I have been a little unhappy with my blackfinger as after an hour or two of use the tubes are so hot that it farts out on me.

Do you guys this the RH 450 with 1 212 would keep up with my current rig? Or do I need to get the 2x10 as well. I am not as big a fan of 210s and usually prefer 12s. Would it have as much punch and power but with a little more warmth and life than the IAMP?

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Ok I admit it...I read the whole thing and I am in...I am getting an RH450, a pair of 210s and covers, a footswitch, and a bag later on today if possible. I gotta see what all the fuss is about..I am NOT thrilled with the LMIII or the GB 6.0 I have been using lately with my Accugroove TRI 115...I will follow the thread and post when I get mine....Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and reviews here. I am actually excited about being excited about something for a change!!

Yes, there is an effects loop.

The rh450 with a single RS212 would keep up with dual GS 112's. Two RS212's or 210's would swallow them up. The rs212 is a thicker, fatter sounding cabinet, and might be more to your liking it sounds like. But the rs210 is also warm, but has a smoother voicing.
