i'm an owner of both the head and the rs212 cabinet

they simply kick a**es (mark bass who?)

Hi Michele.

Do you play a 5 (or more) string? If so, how's the low B definition on the RS212? How credible is the RH450's tube emulation for overdrive? Does the RH's power amp start to 'woof up' a bit like a tube amp does when it is cranked to a high volume?

Thanks.

EDIT: How's the focus on the concentric tweeter?

I went ahead and ordered a RS212 from a buddy. I'll have to pay shipping if I don't like it, but they are pretty close, so max I'll be out 30 bucks if I have to return. I am not looking for the best sound ever, but I am looking for something that I like about 85% as much as my current cab situation. If I can achieve that with the weight savings, I will be a happy boy.

Unfortunately they won't be getting them in until the end of March at this point.

I'm glad you DID post your comments; I very much appreciate the on-topic post. May I ask a couple of questions?

(1) Do the spectracomp settings get saved in the memory when you set the 3 presets? Or do the memory EQ settings and you still have to then go set the compressor?

(2) I don't like to read that the tuner display is always on. The tuner seems to presuppose everyone plays fretted basses. I wouldn't really be happy to have a constantly displaying LED broadcasting whether or not I got my finger down on the precise spot while playing fretlessly... let me know if you find a way to turn the tuning display off.

Cheers!

From what I can see there isn't a great deal of spectracomp adjustment. The level of compression is adjusted by holding shift and turning the gain knob. It seems any setting changed by holding shift, including tube simulation, is saved in the presets.

Uh, maybe because you admit you are a psycho from the "hills of Tennessee"? Didn't they make a movie about that in the early 70's? :D

Woot! Electrical Engineer fight! Electrical Engineer fight!

It's the only kind of fight where the audience's heads hurt a lot worse than the combatants. :atoz:

I agree with the above and it's causing my nose to bleed profusely, Wow I suggest a duel at 4:20 with Slide Rule in hand :hiding:

So it appears that the compressor setting IS saved in the presets? That is good news. Thanks.

Michele, what are your thoughts and opinions on your experience with the amp and cab so far? And what did you pay for them?

bought it only few days ago and still haven't tried it on the road but only at home: for the moment i'm very impressed by the low end this little beast can handle. I look forward for a serious test this saturday..i've a gig.

the head cost to me 990 eur
the cabinet 600 eur

US prices at Bass Emporium ($999 for the head, and $499 for the 210 cab/$599 for the 212). Those cabs are very reasonable. The head is in the same price range as the TecAmp Puma500, and I assume the Markbass F500 when it finally is shipping to the US (it's a little less than the Puma, and I would guess a touch more than the F500 will be).

It's a shame they don't have a 4ohm version of the 212 cab. That would be a nice, powerful single cab rig for small to medium sized gigs.

nope: no5strings here...i use a "not-so-usual" bass like the Les Paul

Regardin the tube emulation, as i said before, i've not had the chance to crank up the volume yet, so i won't tell you anything till this saturday when i'm going to play it live

More in general, both the head and the cabinet give an impression of very high quality and a great level of attention for details. For instance: the material covering the cabinet is kinda of rough, in order to allow a two cabinet stack.
I've also given a little try at the spectracomp settings and it seems to me that it works really well

i promise a detailed review as soon as i've tried the gear better

cheers

Michele

You know, I was initially disappointed by that myself, but the last gig I played, we got loud and I had no PA support, and I still had extra headroom with my Fathom and just one of the Powerhouse 112's. Anything louder than that gig and I think I will have PA support, so I think the 8 ohm cab will work for me assuming I like the way it sounds.

I would agree that with the massive power of the Fathom (headroom, etc. that seems MUCH greater than its rated power) and a small single 112, 4ohm versus 8ohm is meaningless. With a 212 cab and an amp only rated at what I would guess would be about 200 watts at 8ohms, it can be quite a different story. Again, not so much about volume but rather a non-compressed, transparent, clean, full tone with enough headroom to produce transients, etc.

Yeah, only way I am going to figure it out is just to test it out myself. If any amp full featured amp is capable of doing it with an 8 ohm load though, it will be my Fathom.

I had a chance to check out the RH450 in a local store a few weeks ago (the TC sales person was there trying to sell the product and let me demo it) The built in tuner, compression, what'd I'd call a quasi parametric EQ, the programmable save features... All nice... I really liked the amp but wasn't wow about it (as it was plugged into the Tec 2x12... I pulled that plug and put it into an aguilar 2x10 and then an epiph 2x10 ahhh yes sounded much better (guess I didn't like the TC cabs heh)

it's a great little amp, definitely worth comparing if you're in the market for an SD800 or shuttlemax12.

I asked for a 'ballpark price' the sales guy said, around 999 then he commented he was suprised it was that low (being from TC)..

Well, my dealer called me today, their shipment should be in on Wednesday, so depending on their turnaround time, I'll have my cab either Thursday or Friday.

It's nice when ground shipping is essentially overnight. :):atoz:

Thanks for the update. I hope Bass Emporium has their shipment by the end of the week. I'm completely in the dark though.
