TC RH450 Club

Life got in the way tonight and no cabs at practice. ( kids homework help and driving son to guitar lessons.) I have my head and will at least try the stack out in the garage tomorrow and will use them at the gig.
Without breaking in the drivers I won't be getting their final tone. Oh well. As long as there is no chance of damaging them I'm not worried.

LOL. So I have the RH450, RS210 and RS212 ready to pack up this afternoon when the band we're opening up for asks if we want to use their equipment the save setup and tear down time. They have great gear so we're doing it. So... Still haven't had a chance to open up the amp and hear it. I'll probably bring the head and 210 and leave them in my car just in case as backup.
Yep, the way the Rh treats the lows and miss is awesome and syrupy

So the band we opened up for let us use all their gear to save setup and tear down time. I got to play an orange terror 500 through the 212 cube cab. Both guitar players played Hughes and Kettner amps and the drummer had a sweet Gretch.
I still haven't hear my amp turned up but I have a great appreciation for that orange terror and the Hughes and Kettener.

Hey. I see RH450's on ProStarAudios eBay page again, $425 or Make Offer. I'm pretty sure they'd do the $399 deal.
I know this club is 6 years old but I'm new to the TC RH450 and loving mine. At this point they are being phased out

Went over the the guitar players house last night with the RH450, RS210 and RS212. He broke out the marshall half stack for fun. I opened it up. I love the sound. Seems fuller than the BG250 combo. Fuller lows, love the mids and highs too. I have the 3 channels set to basically a bass boost, bit of a mid scoop and high mids and treble and they all sounded really good.
It is going to be louder than I need for any shows we do. I did expect it to be a bit louder.. but since I've never had an amp with more than 250-300 watts, I don't really think I have a realistic expectation. But I love the sound. I didnt get around to trying just the 210 or just the 212. We'll do that some other night. We just cranked as loud as we could while his wife was out of the house.. Fun.

You'll find getting into 10-11:00 region gets your speakers working just nice and everything after that is cake.
At one church I play at, I will roll it just to 10:00ish just to get into the zone and the sound man will say CAN YOU TURN DOWN A LITTLE and I'll crank it to 3:00 and hit a few notes and say LIKE THAT? He'll shake his head and I'll put back to where it was and he'll say THATS GOOD.

Rehearsal last night with one guitar through 50 watt Mesa combo, e-kit and I only used the RH450 with one RS112 and it was plenty loud. Very happy with these little cabs.

I had to do it! I've been curious about this amp since it came out. I just picked one up from proaudiostar. The 10% coupon didn't work for this but I still got a pretty good deal. I can't wait to try it out. I've wanting to have something a little warmer than my GK setup.

Brent... I'm guessing it will be a bit warmer. I don't know GK sound, but even the BG250 115 combo I am upgrading from is a bit cleaker/crisper than the RH450. The RH450 and TC cabs sound very little like the 250 combo. I've monkied around and added a switch and jack so I can use the RH450 head with the 115 combo speaker. Works fine and is really light. I'll try and compare the sounds when I get a chance. But I hope you like it.
I agree with DrPepper.. it's easy to get some horrible sounds if you monkey around with the parametric type EQ and hit some funky EQ settings.. but it didnt take too long to find 3 sounds I really like and have them set up. The fact that the gain is separate per setting is nice.. so you can either have the same volume level across all settings, or maybe have a "solo" preset to punch up your rocking solos.
Knowing the frequency range of the different knobs really made a difference for me and helped me dial in the sound better. this is from a DrPepper post

I would describe the GK sound (or my GK sound) as quick, and gritty very hi-middy if that makes any sense. I use Jazz basses primarily but I have a really nice G&L L2000 that has a very hot output so being able to save the gain setting will be great.

Which GK head are you using?
I think "gritty and hi-middy" should be doable. You can dial in grit with Tubetone, but I guess you'll have find out if it's grit that works for you, being described more as more at the wooly or hairy end of the spectrum rather than the dirty/brittle end. I can't speak to that too much, because I use very, very little. I like a cleaner sound.
Personally, getting an understanding of the frequency map didn't do it for me. My sometimes complaint with the RH was overly sensitive EQ and what I considered over-adjustability. Whatever work for someone in getting their sound is cool, but twist and hunt (even with the frequency map) was very hit-or-miss for me. The random seeming nature of having success or not is actually what colored it as "overly" sensitive and adjustable to me.
My strong suggestion, especially for someone coming in with a particular tonal goal, is to check out the semi-parametric mid/shelving point setup method laid out by a guy named Alvaro Martín Gómez A.
Again, if you have something that works for you, that's great (I see you've been around for a long time, so it's likely that you do), but I just can't help singing the praises of this methodology...I've seen where some have given up without ever really understanding the mid-point setup.

The RH will 'outwarm' almost any amp - especially anything by GK.
The way the mids are voiced is just so sweet on the RH preamp - my GK gear is (while being awesome) harsh by comparison (before tweaking knobs)
I found my RH to also be DEAD SILENT. The GK - not so much.
