Team Trace Elliot! Part II

Good evening Trace brethren. A product-knowledge question to tickle your grey cells; I have an AH350X. The X indicates crossover (easy) - there are two separate output stages a full range 250W and a 150W high pass. My question is - what frequency does the high-pass start?

Got my Trace Elliot GP7SM preamp..... I love it. I racked it with my GK 700RBII. I am running the preamp through the effects loop of the GK into one or two SWR Goliath cabs. I really do like the sound of the Trace set flat. That is always the key to me liking and keeping stuff. I will post pics this weekend. Gonna take it to my Saturday and maybe my Sunday gig and put it through it's paces.

I played my first gig last night with my new Trace Elliot preamp through my GK 700RBII effects loop in to an SWR Goliath. I have never owned any trace gear although I have always wanted to since the late 80's when I first became aware of them. Well after one gig......I am HOOKED!

The sound was so crystal clear and punchy. I have several preamps and this one is right up there with my Alembic F1-X. I played my Ric 4003 through it and it was just huge and the clarity was exactly the sound I was after. To me, it just amplifies the sound of the bass.

That's funny, I've always thought of Trace, esp the GP7, as being very colored. Interesting- but nice you like it!

Well maybe I am not using the term transparent properly. But in comparison to SWR, GK and Eden (the amps I am most familiar with) I get the best sound out of the Trace set almost completely flat. The Eden and the GK take a bit of tweaking and the SWR more so. I turned on the Trace and set everything flit with the mildest of a smiley faced scooped setting on the graphic EQ, plugged in the Ric and bamo. My Jazz and Stingray were even sweeter sounding than the Ric. But the proof was in the gig tones. The first time I put a little bass fill in and the Ric growled ever so slightly and I saw the smile on my drummers face....I just fell in love.

Nice! I'm going to try that with a little GK MB 500 and my SMX head. Innnnnteresting...

I'm defecting. Well not exactly, but I'm dis-membering myself from all my clubs... after I find them all! Lol! Plus I may in fact end up with a different amp scenario, and would feel awkward portending loyalties that don't really exist. I'm only loyal to the sounds I want to make :bassist:... so if you please, remove my number from the roster and I'll fix up my sig.

You all have been good company, and I expect to continue in good relations with all. Thanks for everything! I'm around...

Hey, I just give the numbers out. Once a Trace head, always a Trace head. I'm not going on a search tonight. You can keep your number for when you come back to the fold or tell me what it was and I'll give it out to the next one.

Alright, I'll leave well enough alone for now. I have to get to workies here... thanks.

FWIW, and for newbies and other readers, I'll just say that I have no complaints about my Trace amps- as fine and dandy a piece as I've ever played, all of 'em. Find an old one, grab that puppy...

Can I join?
Just picked up this beast of a rig but I have a few questions. What is the best way to connect the head to the cab? It came with the xlr cable which is pretty worn out but it has 1/4 jacks as well. Also, I am getting some noise coming through the cab which was not present when I bought and tested the amp at Bass Emporium so I think I need to check the tubes and or maybe the speaker connections.
Any ideas are appreciated. Great to be back in "Green" land!

Check the valves are in place. It's valve preamp solid state power stage afaik.

The lead looks past its use-by. You should rewire the xlrs with a new cable or convert everything to speakons.

You will be member #205 since CountBassie retains honorary Tracehead status.
