Team Trace Elliot pt4.

- I have an AH250 GP12 SMX from 1997 - does anyone have the specs on it? Was looking to list it for sale, thought a few official stats might help!

2 of the pics will not pull the right way up - no matter how I save them!

Anyone successfully gig the old 2103 or 1153 cabs? I know they were rated at 200 watts. That seems kinda low for todays standards. I can no longer haul my big cabs and would like to go with a smaller more portable setup.

Wattage isn't going to really be what you want to pay so much attention to- it's more about how power is handled. 2x 1153 cabs, or even one if you don't have to fill a large Quonset-hut type hall, should get you there. My SWR Basic Black (120 w) and Basic 2-Way cab as an extension cab (total 160 w) does pretty dang good in a club.

If you're trying to pull lots of xtra-deep lows, that's one way to get to the end of your ability with lower-powered cabs. But the old Trace Elliot stuff tended to be very under-rated anyway. I'd say go get 'em.

not sure when but there was a time Tom Bowlus rated the 1153 paired stack as his favourite ever.

Vertical 15's have fairly poor dispersion. I'd be on the lookout for a 210 pair.

Anyone know why the wattage rating was so low? Was it just the limits of technology when they were made? It seems most of the new cabs these days have double the rating that these did in the same size enclosures. I know that replacing the speaker is an option but you always hear about whether the cab design/structure can handle the higher wattage.

I had to replace a blown speaker on an old 1153 1x15 cab before selling it recently. Didn't feel like blowing extra money by replacing it with a 200 watt Celestian. Turned out a 400 watt Eminence speaker was cheaper. Sounded fine.
Personally though, I don't understand this perceived need from a lot of people that they can't play a show unless they're pushing 500+ watts. My settings hardly ever get me past 3 on my output stage, and I'm using a 250 watt 2x10 GP12 SMX combo and a 2x10 extension cab.

Hello here! After seing all this nice racks/stacks I feel a little underpowered with my submission! I would like to be part of the team, even if I own only a GP7 SM 150 combo!
Don't have pictures here at the moment, but I will post them soon!

Don't feel so humble- Trace combos are fine amps, and do tend to push more than most will give them credit for, if they base their opinions for quality and presence on published numbers. I had a Commando 15 that was the drummer's (in one band) favorite amp he'd ever heard me use. Plenty loud, great sound.

Thank you! the nice thing is that I'm still exploring new sounds, even though it's more than 10 years that I own this amp, since I got a new bass (see avatar) some months ago! Initially I bought it for rehearsals, but then I realized that it's perfect even for gigging (not arenas obviously :D ) and never had any problems cutting through the mix, with any setup!
Next week, after rehearsals I will post some pics, so maybe you guys can help me find out which exact model it is (yeah, I know only that it is a GP7 SM 150, but now I saw that there are some different models with this name) and maybe give me some advice for the settings!

Sure, post it! Different models as you say will be according to the TE era it came out of, i.e., original, Kaman era, Gibson, Peavey... a lot of the same attributes no matter what era though, and as far as I know they all kick down an outhouse from 40 paces.
