Tech 21 at NAMM

JimmyM..did Lloyd mention that the other character pedals would be available in the same format? I could see (fer instance) the Blonde made this way...would be even a better application of the preset/dual input.

I picked a bad year not to go to NAMM..he said while shoveling snow for the 3rd time in 3 days.

DAAAAAAAANNNNG. I've been flip flopping between the Tech 21 VT-bass and the DHA VT-1, the DHA having a more natural sound (actually having a tube), the VT-bass having much more versatility, and now they had to go and do this.

Programmable presets.

Welp, guess I'm gonna have to be getting one of these!

ya, hell, i was almost shoveling snow today my own self...of course, the rare times it snows down here, it lasts for about 3 minutes and melts immediately ;)

anyway, lloyd only told me about the vt deluxe and the red ripper, but he said that they wouldn't be the only products they're debuting at namm. so i guess we'll see what happens in 5 days. i won't be going but i'm looking forward to the reports.

Dear lord that's sweet. And I can run both my double bass and electric bass through it, and be able to switch, and have great tone, and...

I have no money.

The VT pedal is actually great as an overdrive for double bass (yeah I know, blasphemy, right?), and I do use both basses with my band, so this is seriously sweet. Only thing is, is it cool to run my para driver in front of it? Double bass --> Para Driver --> VT -->Amp?

Do a search for VT-Bass mod. There's a company adding a DI with great options to the current VT-Bass.

Yeah I saw that thread and saw the pictures. It was pretty interesting. Only thing is, I don't think the mod came with phantom power capabilities, whereas I'd assume Tech21, if they released a DI version of the VT, would also put in phantom power capabilities.

I would think that the ideal use of this would be as the first thing in your signal chain. That way you could still make use of the dual inputs.

I would think this, or the BDDI would have to be last, so that the DI out also sends any other effects you had before it in the chain.

This post made me realize the point of the effects loop on these things. You could plug in both basses, put all your effects in the loop, then still have the xlr out as the 'last' thing in your chain.

Just thought I'd point that out to anybody as dense as me who didn't see it right away.

I use the PDDI Deluxe and have been very happy with it for a long time now. This looks interesting to me except for two quirks.

1. no "blend" knob. This is handy for FX loop use as I usually keep a Flanger and Chorus in the loop and it's nice (but not always necessary) to be able to tweak that blend. I'd miss it if it wasn't there.
2. all the LED's are red. I set my PDDI Deluxe's first 3 channels as "Crazy w/fx", "Mellow OD no FX", and "Clean w/FX" (the other 3 in the B bank are mainly just there for crazy kicks) and I don't know how many times i've looked down at it on a dark stage and wished for a Red, Yellow, and Green. Also would be great to distinguish the A&B banks a bit better as well as the FX Loop indicator.

I've not played around with a VT Bass but heard some good things. It's on my list of want to try. If they'd make just a regular 3 channel VT Programmable then that might be really fun as I have no real motive to change out my big black box yet.

Anyway, big cheers to TECH 21 for making great products.
