Tech 21 at NAMM

Damn! Just took delivery of my VT! This looks like the end of the BDDI, huh? Any thoughts?

Nope.

I still prefer the BDDI.
I prefer its more un-organic tone. More metallic and cuts through very nice.

The BDDI will always have its fanbase, it's a popular pedal.
The BDDI has sounds the VT Bass can't do and vice versa.

If you're into Ampeg emulation... then sure I guess the VT Bass is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I love almost anything Sansamp.
The guitar-minded Character Series pedals are really nice.
My guitarist has all of them and I want them too for my guitar setup. Well, just the British will do for me.

Are you happy with your sound and signal-to-noise ratio? If so then that tip likely won't apply to your setup.

--------

For the benefit of those who know even less about these things than I do: :D

With most (if not all) bass amps, running a VT' into the amp's effects return = running it straight into the power amp.

Therefore the VT' gain structure-taming tip (in that link a few posts earlier) of reducing all of the EQ controls by an equal amount is not necessary when running into an effects return.

I expect that turning down the VT's EQ knobs as per that tip would be useful when running it into a pre-amp though.

thanks for the reply..yes i am happy with signal to noise ratio, pedal on and off are practically the same. now on the other hand, running through the pre-amp would that damage the internal preamp(yorkville xm200c)though there is a clipping light on it...if so would the clipping light come on as well running through the effects return.again thanks

although i admit that i have got GAS on this, I think im best off sticking with the regular VTbass - I have a hard enough time picking 'my sound' out of one VT, never mind 3 :)
For me, 1. will be the "always on" sound.

Number 2 will be a more overdriven sound. The VT does some great overdriven tones.

These two tones are the ones that I am always switching between, so having them be just a stomp away is going to be terrific.

With so many great sounds to choose from, deciding what to put as preset number 3 is going to be the real challenge!

disregard....funny i just noticed you replied to my posting in amp section....cheers man!:)

ya, i kind of thought it would be the end of the bddi at first too, but dang if they don't keep selling them. so yeah, i can see the two existing side by side. and maybe even more flavors of tone as well.

volume BOOOOST!!!

you know there are parts of a song that you need to be heard a little more than usual :)

For me, I was planning on getting the programmable bass driver, but can wait for this :)
but i was thinking something along the lines of:

1. eq'd for finger style
2. eq'd for playing with a pick
3. set up for when i play soft, melodic parts.

The vt sounds good not just as an overdrive... right?

ya, its clean sounds are what sold me on it in the first place. i had no intention of using it as an overdrive when i bought it. wasn't even using effects when i bought it. you know how that goes... ;)

The new PVTBDI (<-correct?) only has three pre-sets?

I thought/hoped that it would have 6 like the Bass Driver Deluxe. :eyebrow:

Specs...
it's actually called the VT Bass Deluxe and works the same as the bass driver deluxe, just the knobs are more vt-centric. so i guess your hopes came true after all ;)

:hyper: VT Bass Deluxe...That it certainly is! :)

Six presets! For 'VI players that = 3 for BASS guitar + 3 for bass GUITAR!

Do you have the inside track re specs? If so, I just need to know if its parallel out is buffered or split directly from the input.

EDIT: From the Bass Driver Deluxe's manual:

"[Deluxe] PARALLEL OUTPUT: 1/4-inch buffered, unbalanced direct output. Instrument
signal passes through, UNeffectd, to the input of your stage amplification system or tuner."

Translation: VT Bass Deluxe + VT Bass + LS-2 = clean amp/dirty amp tone possibilities without loading down passive pickups. :)

I took delivery of my VT-Bass two days ago... The entire time I've spent messing with it I kept thinking "If they would make a 3-channel verison just like the PBDDI I'd be in heaven." Now they one-upped my initial thought and gave it parallel inputs and an FX loop.... Wow... Andrew Barta deserves an award.

This would remove two pedals from my board and replace my existing VT-Bass. 3 pedals in 1 box... So awesome.
