Tech 21 bass fly rig

Lol! You guys and your impatience!

Reminds me of what one of my guitarists told me a little while go about what he read on one of the many guitar forums regarding the Line 6 Helix launch date delay. Apparently one idiot was ranting because he sold all of his effects etc based on the estimated release date. That date passed and he has gigs and nothing to gig with.... which is somehow Line 6's fault.

Prat.

It isn't that I don't have gear... My VTRM does fine it is just that the BFR would let me dump one 3u rack. Some folks will buy this then decide they don't like it or need it. So next spring I'll pick one up used at 75% of retail. I have waited this long, what's 9 or 10 months more?

It's a shame they didn't opt to follow the VT Bass DI model an include a blend control though. The Bass Fly Rig is after all a DI as well.
I think the reason they didn't add a blend is because if you want fuzz, the octa section already has a blend and if you want less tubey tones, the character knob should cover that. I may be wrong since I have never used a VT, but I have a the programable bass driver and I only use the blend for less tube and clean blend when using a lot of overdrive.

I've never used one either, but I hope you're right. I don't know whether the character control can dial in a 'transparent' uncoloured overdrive (yes I realise all drives are coloured, but some more so than others). The character knob as I understand it dials in different 'colours'. Are some more 'coloured' than others?

I think it depends on your rig. I run a P-bass through an Ampeg rig. I can get the regular VT into a pretty transparent drive, certainly no need for a blend for me, when using the VT for mild drive duties. I use a barbershop as a clean(ish) boost into it and stil have my sound with a bit more drive. I hope the BFR will do something close.

The knobs won't be at noon and there are high and low rolloffs, but you can dial in a pretty flat sound with the VT, and then add overdrive to it.

Sometimes these delays turn out to hurt a product worse than companies realize. A similar thing happened to the Peavey Minimega I think. When all the reports come out on these products, demand seems to be pretty hot. If enough time goes by, most of the initial interest has either died off, or transferred to a similar competing product. I have to believe they would have sold a bundle of these, had they been available sooner. They pretty much killed the chance of an early impulse buy.

I do hope this thing is great though. I'm looking forward to some more reviews from users.

This bass fly rig at first sight for me was: woooow :woot:....
But with the "VT sansamp inside" for me is no good ...
I really prefere the "RPM sansamp"... I think I'll get the pedal version the para driver di second generation...
I use to have the rack RPM and the RBI... Good times with that RPM tone... :smug:

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a Zoom instead, at least it is available...

I have both a zoom MS-60b and a sansamp programmable bass driver. I can say without a doubt that the sansamp is noticably better when compared to the zoom's sansamp module. But if you tend to only use the sansamp for a cleaner tone, go zoom because their are so many good effects and the clean tone is comparable. I still prefer the bass fly rig though and will be selling my zoom to fund the fly rig since it is less complicated at my feet for individual effects. (I realize B3 has individual effects, but only 3) and I don't need all the effects of the zoom.
