Tech 21 bass fly rig

I'd like a demo to hear all the effects by themselves.

I'm guessing you can find better individual effects pedals but that would defeat the purpose of this. A small, compact, single unit that can give you a great sound and also has effects options for when they are really necessary which is usually maybe 1-2 songs per night for most bass players.

Obviously that's the point of it, but knowing what the fuzz or octaver sound like by themselves is important to people that use those effects.

I was basically stating if you use certain effects such as fuzz or octaver a lot you will be better off going with a single pedal. I have never heard of any effect in a multi-effect unit that sounds better than individual. You could def buy a better sounding fuzz and octave for half of what the fly rig cost. But if you only use it on a few songs then everyone in the audience will not noticed the difference and you're better off rolling with the fly rig.

That isn't always true, not with eventide, Strymon, Chunk Systems... to name a few. That said, all of those sell retail for double the price of this guy.

So far the demos are not too promising, filter sound pretty bad. But Namm cam videos are not good indicators.

I like the filter tones.

Eventide/strymon/source audio are still victim to the same forces. For example, how many people (nerdy guitarists from TGP for example) have both a bigsky and another reverb like the wet or supermoon, because "nothing does it like a wet or supermoon"

Ditto the source audio OFD, but then also still have a 3bod, tall font or b3k.

I would hate to ever find myself in either of those camps.

Anyways, I agree, we need to hear the back half of the fly rig one sound at a time.

Liking it so far though

it will be hard to hear what the filter and comp sound like without plugging in your own bass. In the meantime I would love to hear full range of filter controls without octave and fuzz. Subtle drive on sans amp, and sound more loner chorus. Then I'd like to hear a all effects on, playing nice with Filter range set low and Q no higher than 70%.

Also, I'd like to definitively know the signal flow. A dynamic suppressor (comp) before a dynamic expressor (envelope following filter) is an unconventional choice, not unheard of but interesting. It would serve to give longer keyboard like sustain on your filter sweep like one of the videos states.

I'm one of those bassist that uses filters on many songs in a performance. The one in my Chunk Systems Octavius is multi-FX is my fav and I have owned all of the best (original Mutron, all the EHX, WMD, all the Source Audio, Dreadbox, MXR M82...)

I don't have super high hopes for filter but the Sans Amp set to my taste and passable other FX, a great "ALL ON" setting and decent/noiseless DI performance would be great for a guy who like to bring gesr on the plane.

I'm not talking about in comparison to individual pedals, but to other all in one options like Zoom.

Many of the other all in one options are quite a bit bigger than the fly rig. They also tend to be programmable. That said, lots of folks prefer the analog signal path in the tech21 gear to the digital path in others. I plan on getting one of these, as long as it does what I want it to do. So far, I'm thinking that it will.

Well I'm sold! Thanks for those vids John. My mused used effects so see compression and drive, knowing that this unit is capable of a relatively uncoloured drive with everything set to noon sets my minds at ease, as does hearin the moogish/keyboard bass synth tones. I currently have a large line 6 M5 on my board that pretty much only gets used for its synth effect for playing 'time is running out' as my zoom ms-60b just can't get that sound. This seems like I can get away with dialing in something pretty close - certainly good enough for the average pub gig punter.

I'm just hoping that the input pad will be suitable enough for balancing the difference in volumes between my two usual basses - I currently use an eq pedal for this.

Now if they only made one for DB ;)

INDEED!

Gotta say it gets tiring hearing the "it can't replace individual pedals" yadda yadda... No Ship Shirtlock!

It's a niche item, it fills its niche quite nicely — *hint* it's intended and closely associated purpose is (not so) hidden in the device's name. (Yup, I can play Cap'n Obvious, too!) Fills that little niche in your carryon bag.

I like how the guitar version and Kotzen-version were just test beds for the full-on version. IMO, 'Tis a great device that has hit its mark.
