Tech 21 lost their minds?

Sure. add $200 to my total and re-compare.

Based on what the Landmark 600 sells for used compared to their new price I think the Ultra 1000 will show up on the used market in the $1200-$1400 range (less in a few years). So you'd save $200-400 building a used pedal or rack system (add a few bucks for a rack too). For some people the extra few hundred will be worth it to get the perks of the Ultra 1000, but others will happily sacrifice size and weight savings to pocket a few hundred dollars. No wrong answer with either choice.

These days I'm a K.I.S.S. guy when it comes to my stage rig. I'm sure I'd love some of the pedals mentioned previously, but even if I never played cramped stages I'd prefer to stick with one wire running from bass to a single amp/rack/whatever, and speaker cable(s) running from that same box to my speaker(s). Nothing wrong with complicated rigs: huge racks, multiple racks and/or amps, pedalboards, etc. They're just not for me anymore. Usually one tone per gig is enough. For hard rock I like to switch from a clean-ish tone to a grindy tone.

Nobody's saying the dUg amp isn't spendy. However you get a whole buttload of processing power plus 1000W in a single, compact, lightweight box. Assuming the dug will go from a conventional clean-ish tone to Entwistle/Pinnick face-melt and back (and I suspect it will), then I will open my wallet. Convenience is worth $$ to me.

Amen. I'm going to post a question related to this post in the dedicated Ultra 1000 thread.
