Tech 21 VT Bass DI

Hmm... Don't think I really need the mod. I've pretty much nailed my SVT CL tone(ooohhh!!!). Seriously, it's pretty damn close. Closer than I thought possible.

I don't think its necessary either, having spent some time with the pedal, both before & after the mod. I liked it before the mod & any troubles or learning curve I had with eq adjustments with this pedal weren't magically improved with the cap job. I could most likely get to the same happy place with the pedal without the cap.

Yeah, I'm on the fence with the cap mod, myself.

I kind of hate to modify a new unit right off the bat.

I can get a good tone out of it as it is.
More compressed that my T. H., but sometimes that's not such a bad idea. They're two different animals, and both pretty darn good.

Awaken zombie thread....this one's still fresh.
I have searched and searched. Are there any comprehensive demos of this online?
I mostly want to know how well the blend functions, is it natural or does it do that weird 2 layers of unconnected sound some blend knobs do?
I'm very interested in this after buying a Vt Bass last year, V1 no speaker defeat. I need a preamp/DI pedal for live stuff. Tried out a B7K the other day and didn't like the sound as much as my VT Bass, too trebly or "metal" to my ears I guess. A VT with a blend knob would be perfect I think.
Thanks for any help :)

I get bleed thru distortion when my BLEND is all the way to the LEFT ( off).. If i have the Drive knob up past 12 o'clock RARE,, BUT if i do i get bleed thru distortion when the pedal is switched to off and bypassed.. Weird.
I have VT Bass and thinking of selling my VTDI and picking up a BDDI one more time.. So i have both.. I go back and forth allot..

I've been using the VTDI on guitar a ton and haven't had that issue at all. I haven't any issues that other people are reporting. Going to try it again through the bass rig to see if I'll have any then.

Been reading about that in the thread, not a huge issue for me as I usually run the drive on low levels and use a Pigtronix Bass Fat Drive for overdrive. Low level of drive on the VT bass makes the Fat Drive sound amazing.
Blend would probably be at 12 o'clock most of the time (I like the sound of my bass and amp), just wary of how it sounds.

Give it some time, I took notes for settings I liked to compare & I wouldn't bother with the suggested settings in the manual except fliptop. A good starting point for me is eq & blend at 12:00, bite & speaker sim off & character/Drive around 11:00. I often use the +10db 1/4" out as I'm using this as my primary preamp with a little eq after the VTBassDI.

My setting is pretty much like I posted up above, blend & all eq at noon, with drive & character somewhere between 10 & 11:00, I keep the bite & speaker sim disengaged. I like a fairly neutral setting, I ad a little eq after the VT bass just because I'm a knob tweaker but I could deal with the VTBassDI as my sole preamp. Like Ed I've found I like the buffered sound of the pedal & I keep the VYBassDI 1st in line after my bass.

This pedal has been pretty overwhelming for me(in a good way). I set my eq on my head to flat (using a 70s v4) and have been really liking the sounds I'm getting with the "character" knob turned between 9 o'clock and 1 o'clock. It gets gritty and dirty, or clean. A beautiful sounding pedal.

Some of you may remember my epic search for a dirt/DI pedal last year. The result of which was that I found the MXR M80 to be the best balance of features, price, sound and build quality. Of the VT Bass pedal at the time, I said that it sounded great--maybe even the best--but that it was expensive and did not have a DI.

Well, now that it has one I think I may flip my M80 and pick one of these up. If I can get at least a bill for the MXR that'll soften the blow of the VT Bass DI price tag.

Thoughts?
