Does anyone know of any newer sound clips or video clips of this pedal in action?
I've pretty much been through all of the ones listed on google and youtube.

Has anyone put this pedal through a real Ampeg SVT with the pedal set to mimic the sound of an SVT? Would that create some kind of crazy super SVT sound?

Hey Jimmy! Got another project for you lol.
Already did it. Hate to disappoint you but if you do that, it just sounds like the SVT with nothing plugged in. It doesn't double up its Ampeggy goodness.

TSo maybe they've gotten better since the last time I checked in on Line 6.

I dunno, I got my PODXT a year ago, so I imagine they haven't changed much since then. Now, I DO use it, always as a separate track in addition to a DI, so it's useful and does add something, but it just lacks "sparkle" for me. One can EQ some life into it of course, but it takes a fair amount of help, plus I find the unit pretty noisy. Maybe it's just me--other folks seem to get good results. For live use like Deleo it would be fine I'm sure---less critical than recording.
The VT sounds like something I should try . . .

Quick question, and forgive me for not reading this whole thread (and my lack of knowledge on effects loop type stuff):

Can the VT be run through the effects loop?? The reason I ask is because I'd like to run one through the loop on my Carbine, so that it can be shut off when not used (when my friend and I demo'd one awhile back, we did notice some coloration of the tone when the VT was off---I assume it is not true bypass).

Or am I way off, and it can't be used effectively this way??

It can be used this way and in fact there is a post about it here...(I may be out of line but the phrase 'search' comes to mind;))

That being said, I am not sure if signal is still passed through the effects loop on the Carbine. I know that you can insert at the effects return to bypass your pre and use the VT as pre, but as far as inserting it from the out to return, I dont know if you can effectively eliminate the coloration that way. Someone more knowledgable then me will know. I'm gonna go with my gut and say it will still color your tone even when switched off.

That's a good question. I don't think I hear any coloration from the pedal when it's off, but I haven't tested it that way. It's not true bypass. It's what they call "buffered bypass," which they claim eliminates high end loss with multiple pedals, and pops and clicks.

Well, I guess I have a project tonight...

EDIT: I just tried it, and I really don't hear anything different with it in-line as I do pulling it out and going straight to the amp. I thought at first I heard an ever so slight cut of the highs, but I switched it out a couple more times, and now I'm convinced that I was just hearing things.

I think I'm becoming married to this pedal. Even in my B-15 stack, I'm finding uses for it. Only thing is I really don't want to start carrying a pedalboard again. I have a little empty 4-sp rack that I've got a racked power supply, and my wirelesses, my compressor, and my Microbass velcro'ed to the bottom of it. I sit it sideways next to my amp, and I pull my Microbass out and sit it on top and I'm good to go without any wires around me or in front of me, and I have a place to set drinks as well. And now this pedal's going to ruin it. Well, let's see what else I have laying around for effects... ;)

If you don't like the bypass of this pedal, get a true-bypass-looper (or make one) as it will still be in your chain if you put it in the fx loop!

This pedal will run in an fx loop, but as it will be getting a hotter signal the drive control will need turning down a bit more than you normally would. The most commong use of this pedal with an fx loop would be to bypass the amp's pre-amp by going bass -> VT Bass -> FX loop return, which is exactly how I will be using mine when I find myself using someone else's amp that I don't get on with.

Jimmy

I want to buy one, first of all b/c of overall good will towards them. I bought the LMII b/c of overwhelming support for the amp, especially from you. So, my question is, with the warmth of the LMII, what does the VT add, if anything? Have you used it in front of the LMII as an overdrive to add some wool to the warmth of the LMII?

I guess I'm asking for clarification of this post:

One thing I'm finding out about this pedal is that a little drive goes a long way. I had the drive to where I could barely tell it was on by itself, like 9:00, but in a band context it adds a noticeable layer of "wooliness." The Markbass head by itself and the VT had the same sound otherwise, and it was night and day even though it hardly made a difference without a band.

Or maybe I'm just looking for a little push over the edge to buy one. :smug:

I appreciate it but just remember everyone's tastes are different, so spend your hard-earned money wisely and try stuff out if you can.

Anyway, I've done what you're talking about. It's not absolutely necessary with the LMII but the LMII is a very clean amp with no grit whatsoever. The VT is most excellent at adding grit to it. I've been using it with the LMII to where you can't really tell it's on but you can feel a little extra texture in it. It's a bit like hammering in a nail with a wrecking ball, but it does get you further into Ampeg territory where the LMII leaves off.

I guess I should clarify. I'd been seeing the Markbass stuff at my local GC, but because I didn't like the look I had never taken the time to try it out. Enter TB, and I decided, wow, that whole time I've walked straight by that stuff, I guess I should try it out. I was in the market for a new amp to replace my GK anyways. So, I tested it out on several occasions, and believed that I liked the sound enough and had heard enough praise of it to confidently purchase it and know it would sound good in a band context.

That being said, I can't find a shop here in Orange County with the VT pedal, and seeing as how I am more than happy with the LMII, figured I would drop the 150 on the VT based on it receiving such glowing reviews here.

I guess what I'm saying is, I don't like to spend my hard earned money without hearing something, but in this case...

If you have no need for dirty sounds, I think the LMII gets as close to Ampeg tone as it gets in solid state amps so I think you really don't need to get the VT. The little grit it adds is great, but for $150 you can live without it. But if you want cranked amp sounds that are realistic, there is no other pedal.
