Tech 21 VT Bass

Got to give mine a run through at practice last night. It sounds really good and ballsy. I'm getting a similar sound to the BassDriver, but with more midrange girth. Here are the settings I'm using with my Jazz with SD Quarter Pounders:

Bass: 1:30
Mid: 1:00
Treble: 10:30
Drive: 11:00
Character: 12:30

It was a little trickier to dial in than I expected, but it still wasn't too bad.

My band recorded a rough demo of a new song that we just wrote from a cheap Behringer mixer into the mic input on our guitarist's mac book into Garageband. I mic'd a cab and ran a DI after the VT Bass. Combined with my HBE Hematoma, I got the fattest, thickest, heaviest tone that I've ever gotten on a recording, and that was just a random, pre-set blend of the DI and mic.

I just ordered one, I cannot wait to try it, I am planning to run it in my chain side option in the navigator so I can blend it with a clean sign. Let see .. is amazing how difficult is to grab one of this pedals, is out stock every where

HEllo

just checking in to show my gratitude. Ordered mine on monday, and got it today. Sounds just as amazing as you guys made me hope for, and has the versatility. And it really feels like dialing the knobs of a real amp, the EQ and drive knobs really gives you a lot to work with.

Was a little tricky to dial in a good clean at first, but when i realized, start with drive at zero and work it from there, the clean tones came easily.

The massive overdrive possibilities are truly killer on this one.

Right now im just a liitle bit annoyed this came out this year, and not a couple of years ago, when i started building my pedalboard. (didnt grow very big though, heh)

will post again and let you know when ive done first concert with it (dec 27)

see ya

Just got mine and it has some great sounds.

However, my initial impression is not that great. The bypass, while not a true bypass, is horrible. If the pedal is off, I get nothing but a rumbling/farting distortion noise with each pluck of the strings, and turning a few of the knobs actually effect the sound. I tried this on two basses last night, a Fender P Bass and a Warmoth/Sadowsky in passive and in active. Amp is a MarkBass CMD 102P (the 2x10 combo).

Is this normal? Or is the pedal meant to always be on?

I had nothing like that on either of them that I've owned.

Something's wrong in your chain. What you describe isn't a normal characteristic of the VT pedal.

Bass --> bayou cable --> vt --> bayou cable --> MarkBass combo.

Without the pedal, all is fine and clear, no additional noise, hum, and static (I thought that was just a quirk of the pedal?). I don't get the same results w/other pedals.

I'll do some more testing tonight and if I need to, record a few samples.

yeah i had this happen to me last night. if you are using it as a big volume or gain boost, there is signal bleed. that's what i hate about buffered bypass. if you lower the volume to about 9 oclock (which is about parity for me) it seems to go away.

I have a VT bass pedal on order now which I will be using with an LM2. I would be interested to hear how people are setting the LM2 in conjunction with the VT bass ? Do you keep the EQ's flat ? What about the VLE and VPF knobs ? Also are you running it in front of the LM2 or through the effects loop ? Thanks for any suggestions with this on what you have found to be optimal settings.

My settings are LMII flat except for the VLE at 9 oclock.
VT bass 12.30,middle 12.30,treble 10.30,character 10.45,drive 10.30 and volume 12.I'm also using a MIA Fender Jazz with Lindy Fralins. The tone is a nice and throaty, with a touch of overdrive.
