Tech 21 VT Bass

I had my first gig with the VT Bass this weekend. It was a small basement gig with no PA support for the instruments, so I can't comment on how it worked running DI, but through my rig, it brought out a whole new level of awesome. I was cutting through without any problem, but still blending enough that the band sounded coherent. I can't wait to play at a real venue with this thing going through the PA.

I got my VT Bass earlier today.

It adds something to the sound that I really like, a nice depth and warmth, a "tubiness" if you will.

However, it also takes away something in the high mid/low treble range that I miss. That's the only thing I can find about it that I don't like.

It's a powerful piece of equipment without a doubt. Bypass is splendid, I can't complain about that at all.

I recommend it. :)

Jimmy, I saw your SVT settings for this pedal. Was this through an LM2 ? Do you do anything different with the VT bass through the LM2 ? Just got mine and have been trying different settings with the LM2. Thanks.

I bought my VT Bass a few days ago and I've been playing with different settings and ways to connect it.

Plugging it directly into my GK 150E combo it sounded clanky and harsh, even though the eq was set completely flat.

Then I tried plugging it directly into the FX-return jack and the change was amazing! Sweet-tube-sound-o-rama!

I've got the character and mids at noon already. I can't put my finger on what it's taking out, but it is something that I miss.

Having played around with it more, I can say that I'm not going to be using it as an always-on, but it definitely has its place. I quite like it. :bassist:

The recording I did was through a Hughes and Kettner Red Box, but that setting worked with the LMII, too.

LOL! Thanks A. If I'm using it for a little overdrive in my own rigs, I go level just below 9:00, mid at 1:00, char 11:00, drive 12:00, bass 12:00, high 9:30 or 10:00. Not too much drive...just enough to notice it's a little dirty. If I'm on the road and the SVT I'm supposed to get ends up getting replaced with some POS the promoter's son had laying around, I set it to imitate a clean B-15. Everything is the same basically, except I back the drive down to about 8:30 and I set the level for unity gain. I tend to go for the B-15 end of the character knob.

Hi Jimmy, I hate to show my ignorance on some of these terms, but could you or someone explain what "unity gain" means ? I've seen this term used but don't know quite what it means. I did check the bass tone glossary in the wiki section..thanks.

Got mine the other day, and so far I'm loving it.

The perfect tube sound is Character & Drive at about 9:00, Mids at noon, highs & bass at about 11:00. Nice paring with a passive P-bass. Overdrive is one of the most usable I've had, and I'm not a big overdrive guy.

I've owned the PBDDI and this pedal is different in a good way. Overall, it looks like a keeper.
