Tech 21 VT Bass

VPL is off, VLE is at about 9:30 to approximate the 5k rolloff of non-tweetered 10"s. Makes no difference in my tweeterless cabs, but when I use the LMII I DI and add VLE it so the soundman can't have access to those annoying high freqs.

Jimmy, sorry to keep bugging you with these questions but based on your comments about cabinets I have a follow up question. I'm running my LM2(now with VT bass pedal) into a markbass 2x10 traveller(102P ?) and an inexpensive GK goldline 2x10 cabinet that does not have a tweeter. I also have a Boss limiter/enhancer pedal in my effects chain. Based on this equipment, where would you set the VLE and VPF ? I know alot of this is subjective, but I find I struggle with finding the right tone. I like the vintage tones I'm getting with the VT bass but I still want to maintain the LM2's character and I like the way it cuts through the mix when I play out live. I have a gig coming up on New Year's eve and it will be the 1st time I use the VT bass pedal live. Just don't want to screw up my current sound, which I've been satisfied with. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Based on your rig, I must say that I have no clue I always leave the VPF off, but I tend to go for its flat sound rather than forcing a scoop on it. The VLE...if you want cutting, then you might want to leave the VLE off, too. But I found with my Mini CMD121P combo that the tweeter became a lot less annoying with some VLE on it.

so im really considering scrapping my entire rig and going for a vt, power amp, and cab setup.

only other things i ever run are a dirt box and a chorus. occasional talkbox.

how well does this pedal react to a bit more drive put in front of it? i plan to run it with a lot of the character knob up. high mid grind and a hint of drive. id like to also be able to kick in some more drive when necessary.

I run a Humphrey modded Bad Monkey into mine, and I have to say, IT SOUNDS GLORIOUS. Try a stock one, they're dirt cheap and work so well as a dirty boost for the VT. Clips coming soon to a Talkbass thread near you!

i currently use an H&K warp factor set very low as my main drive. it has a bass boost function, which is why i use it over either of my ds-1's (one is the keeley mod)

I've done some cascading with my VT into my Zoom B2's distortion units, and even at the light grind setting I use the VT, it will do some very cool things. Too cool for my band

You mostly get that Ampeg character, theres a bit more clarity and a slight compression going on to. I love the pure GK tone by itself but with the music that I play and my cab choice the VT has become an 'always on' effect.

I've tried that setting before...it's pretty good. The low mids get a little hyped with the bass knob that high, but the character knob being up that high balances out the 500 hz mid cut pretty well.

Since I play B-15's when I'm local, it becomes merely a fun little OD box. But when I'm on the road, it's indispensable for turning crap backline into a de facto B-15. I don't travel without it anymore.

I prefer fuzz going into the VT myself. Still loving this pedal.

I'm really enjoying the interplay between the VT character knob and the VLE and VPF on my LM2. getting some really interesting sounds tweaking all of these 3 in conjunction with each other.

I run my P bass into my VT then into a GK 700 RBII. I've tried it through both the pre and power amps, and prefer it in the pre, with the volume on the pedal at about 9:00-10:00, the volume on the GK preamp around 10:00, and Boost at 12:00-2:00. Everything else on the amp EQ is flat, but I sometimes dial in a little more low mids there to suit the room. The VT bass settings I change depending on song, room, etc. to taste.

I'm expecting a Badder Bass Monkey any day now. Have you tried it after the VT also? What did you like about it sitting before? Also, are you getting any switching noise with other pedals after the BM?
