This thread is killin' me. I am a SANSAMP guy and use the PBDDI all the time. I am in the midst of recording new tracks as well. One of ten down. 9 more to go. Is it really worth it to spend $150 for this or is it going to be too much duplication of my SBDDI. Trying to sort out the hype vs reality equation here. I dont want to buy it and say "Great pedal, but pretty much duplicates my PBDDI"

There is some overlap, but the VT is a whole lot more versitile. I have mine set up for sort of the "typical" Sansamp tone, but with a much girthier midrange, but there are a lot more tones to be had with the VT. The Character knob really does wonders.

Yeah...very sensitive controls...if I pint the drive at the "R" in drive, and then move it to the "i", there's a big difference. Character is the same...

Most versatile pedal I've owned.

I reckon the older Sansamp is better at copping the scooped grindy Justin Chancellor sound. So much so that I'm considering picking up a BDDI to go with my VT! Should be able to get some great blended tones using the pair.

Just got mine today, and used it at a gig tonight for the first time. I can't believe how good it sounds!!! I thought I had good tone before, this thing is incredible. It's an "always on" pedal for sure. I'm using it clean, and it's insane how much warmth and depth it adds! Couldn't be happier:hyper:

Using both together does give you a range of tones you can't get with either one alone. It's a rounder somewhat more scooped tone the way I have mine setup. The one downside is a bit of hiss when both are on.

I just bought a new VT today...for the second time. I have owned three original Bass Drivers and always ended up selling them to pay for other gear on my GAS list. I bought a new VT bass pedal a few months ago, kept it for a week and returned it as it didn't seem to add anything to my already sweet tone that I have from playing a Stingray, into a Shuttle, with Eden cabs.

But, the sheer popularity of these baby's and the fact that I don't think I gave it enough of a go has caused me to break down and buy another one.

The other thing was that they are hard to come by and the little music store near my house has had one brand new in the tin, sitting ignored at the bottom of a big bin of new pedals. Here in Canada the price of a VT bass pedal is $200 and this one was marked at $165 (old pricing from the summer). It had never even been opened or taken out of the plastic bag.

I still don't know how much use it will get with my Stingrays but my passive Jazz is the bass i am looking to try this with. I have spot on my pedal board for it, so I am looking forward to giving her a much more comprehensive tryout this time.

I'm such a gear slut! :)

MAN!!!!!! I used my VT last nite at a gig, thru my V4BH >NV610 SUPERB- brutal sound BASS HEAVEN!!!!!!

IT DOES take a while to grasp the interactive qualities of the controls- heck I've only used mine at a handfull of gigs & had it only a month or two. But I find it helps give me a li'l more grit- I mean my V4BH>NV610 when cranked gives a GREAT sound anyway..... But it just gives me the option of using it as another sound- or 4 more OD when needed. & I use it at my Jazz/blues gigs too thru the LMII>GS112 to give IT a B-15 vibe- NICE

I'm liking this thing more and more. I dialed in the most warm delicious muted tone last night. It was essentially clean with the highs muted and I was amazed how good it sounded.

I also quite like the basic SVT setting. Its very adjustable and easy to tweak to match your bass. I may not have in on my board as an "always on" pedal, but its definately won a place on my board at this point.

I just picked one of these up last week and loved the tones I was getting from home. delicious. I took it took it to a gig on saturday and and played it with both my basses (both passive / a '64 P bass with TI flats and a Lakland USA JO) through a GB Shuttle 6.0 and bergantino HT112. Live with a full band I thought the nuances of the pedal did not stand out as much as it did playing by myself in my basement but what it added was still delicious and I could get a great hairy, delicious, warm growl when I would hit the tube pre a little hard for some additional crunch. I pretty much played with it on all night and loved it but with my current rig I may not miss it that much if I didn't have it. If I was playing a more modern bass and had a more of a Hi-Fi amp I imagine this pedal would be perfect for dialing in a more vintage tube tone. With that being said, I foresee this pedal remaining in my possession for a long time to come.

It sounds amazing with my Stingray 5. So much so that I gigged with it last night, ( I sat in for a full set) VT straight to the board. Sounded like a miked B-15 on the verge of breaking up. That was only one setting.

Try running the pedal into a tube preamp ( like the Presonus) for some serious growl and gain/gamey ness (like a pitbull dragging its' owner down the street during a walk):cool::cool:

I've noticed that the VT can make my Aggie DB659 sound like a rode-hard SVT (think Pixies, for example). However, that extra grunt depends on hitting the first stage of the Aguilar with extra gain. When the VT pedal is dialed back to unity gain, the grunt gets gone.

Is the VT adding muscle to your tube pre at unity gain?

It is for me. I'm running my VT at pretty much unity gain, but I have the gain cranked pretty hard on the Tube PAC. It's not quite distorting, but it's reeeeaallly close.
