Tech 21 VT Bass

Depends on your definition of "hot", but the EMGs in my P bass get along fine with the VT, I just have to adjust the input gain when going back and forth from my passive bass. Maybe I should make it easier and play the P at half volume to match my J- actives don't loose high end when you turn 'em down. Hmmm....

The VT-bass plays fine with hot active basses. Both my Schecters have custom wound very hot Kent Armstrong pickups and OBP-3 preamps. One is a dual humbucker and hte other is a J/MM config. Those two basses are close enough to volume that switching doesn't bother me or the VT.

However, in the past I've used Radial Hotshot boxes or other A/B pedals with volume controls for the different inputs to help tame volume differences between basses. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Not me, Tech 21 doesn't press release me ;) Lloyd Schwartz from Tech 21 mentioned there were no current plans for one last summer. But that was before they knew it would be a hit to the degree it is, so hopefully they're taking notice.

I recently (within the last month) spoke with someone at Tech 21 inquiring about the possibility of a multi-channel programmable VT Bass product and the answer was interesting. I was told that they couldn't answer that question right now, that they cant't say anything at this time. They also said that if they were not expecting to make such a product they would have simply answered my question with a 'no'. I was told to expect something that would work well in my intended application soon. They were basically trying to tell me that they are planning to make a product similar to what I described (a three channel programmable VT Bass pedal) but were not allowed to say so or divulge details at this time.

You're not helping me here!! I want to get one of these, and now you're saying that a programmable version (maybe with an XLR out?) might be coming out? Not fair!

Interesting...I may have to write and see what's up with that. Maybe we all should. Put the pressure on 'em. I'll get one the day it comes out.

Here's part of the responce I got today:

Dear Karp,

Thanks for your inquiry. If I write, "The password is 'swordfish'", would you get what I'm saying? :-)

I appreciate your sending the quote from the message board. I sometimes run across such things myself, and unfortunately, all it does is convince me I must guard my already-guarded answers to questions like these. When something's a "no", we'll say "no", but when something's a "maybe", it's not any sort of "official statement" that we expect will be shared. A press release is a press release... a conversation is not.

In any event, the idea does seem intriguing, but between R&D, prototypes, revisions, etc., it would be some time before we could even determine if a product like that is even possible. In other words, I wouldn't "hold off" until anything bigger and better comes down the pike.

Regards,
Lloyd Schwartz, Product Manager

I can't wait!!!!!:hyper:
