Here's part of the responce I got today:

Dear Karp,

Thanks for your inquiry. If I write, "The password is 'swordfish'", would you get what I'm saying? :-)

I appreciate your sending the quote from the message board. I sometimes run across such things myself, and unfortunately, all it does is convince me I must guard my already-guarded answers to questions like these. When something's a "no", we'll say "no", but when something's a "maybe", it's not any sort of "official statement" that we expect will be shared. A press release is a press release... a conversation is not.

In any event, the idea does seem intriguing, but between R&D, prototypes, revisions, etc., it would be some time before we could even determine if a product like that is even possible. In other words, I wouldn't "hold off" until anything bigger and better comes down the pike.

Regards,
Lloyd Schwartz, Product Manager

I can't wait!!!!!:hyper:
I could be wrong, but he seems kind of irked that you passed that info on to the whole interwebz.

It also doesn't really seem like they have one in the works, but rather are saying to themselves "hmm, that would be cool" and not doing much about it.

I think the "irked" part your refering to is about the original post about 10 back. The one stating that someone at Tech 21 kinda hinted to the idea.

I sent him that post and asked if there was any truth to it. Based on his response, I'd say they're already hip to the idea and are working on it. That's just my take on it though...

Trust me...they do. I spoke to Lloyd months ago about doing a programmable VT, and he said they currently didn't have plans for it. Of course, this was way before the second batch sold out, so I'm sure they were proceeding cautiously before dumping lots of money into R&D. Now that the VT's a bonafide huge hit, they'd be stupid not to look into making a programmable version with a DI and everything.

But as he said, something like that could be a couple years away before it's perfected. So don't let that slow you down from missing out on the pedal of the future now.

That's why I ordered mine yesterday! I love the idea of a programmable one, or one that just has an XLR out as well, but I want to use it now!

Where would you plug in your amp output?

This would be if someone just wanted to go direct and didn't have a DI box.

Me, I plan on putting mine on top of my amp and running it into the input on my amp. My amp has a 10-band EQ that is switchable. I could either run it with the EQ off or use the EQ sliders to further shape the tone. The amp sounds the same with the EQ off or on and flat. From there I'll go direct through my amp's XLR out.

I think they should come standard with a 1/4" out and XLR out so you could go direct and to your amp at the same time.

Agreed, but only if it was quality. Otherwise I'd rather plug into a Countryman. Fortunately, since it's a rare occasion I run a DI, not an issue for me ;)

I'd like to incorporate a VT into a DI for FOH while sending an un-effected signal to the amp input similar to what can be done with a BDDI.

Anyone running one like this? Any recommendations for a low cost, simple way to do this?

TIA

I don't have my VT yet so this is all theortical at this point. I've got a Hartke VXL Bass Attack which (in case you didn't know) has a switchable analog tube amp modeler, switchable variable mid-scoop, and a nicely transparent DI - and it runs off a 9v or phantom power. It has three outputs: affected/unaffected XLR and 1/4" and an unaffected bypass out. I plan on running my bass into the VT and then into the Bass Attack, sending the XLR signal out of the Bass Attack to the FOH, and sending the affected signal from the 1/4" output to my amp. I got my Bass Attack for $50 shipped!

Interesting. Do you have any other pedals in your chain now (even a tuner)? I am sure you can get an ABY and a regular passive DI to do this. My Boss TU2 has two outs (one that mutes when the button is pushed). You could split the signal before the VT and add a DI after...sounds unnecessarily complicated though.

There are definitely other ways of doing this, but I already have a Bass Attack pedal. The advantage that the Bass Attack pedal has over a regular passive DI is you've got tone shaping, an alternative tubey tone, and a mid scoop if you want to do some slapping.

I know you can get a good DI box for around $50, but I got my Bass Attack for $50 shipped here on TB. It just seems like I've got a DI plus.

Dare I say this....Am I the only person that doesn't want a VT bass?
No, you're not the only person...there are a lot of people out there who already own Ampeg tube amps and don't really want a VT. And there are even a handful of people who actually don't like the sound of Ampeg tube amps. Crazy, I know, but who am I to judge? ;)

Finally got to mess around with this...AWESOME!!! Played around with some of the settings that everybody posted, and a few of my own...my final conclusion is I need three of these chained together...I can run back and forth turning one off and the other on to get different sounds...lol
Thanks for all the help and thanks to Jimmy for "making" me buy one of these!

My GAS for this keeps fluctuating between "hey, no need, I already have OD", and "hmm, no rush, should just get the DI version once it's out", and "OMG!!! MUST HAVE NOW URGENT BUY WHERES MY CREDIT CARD"...

I'll probably end up budging, buying it, and reselling it once the programmable/DI version is out (and we KNOW it will come, sooner or later)
