Teenage tearjerkers

You want maudlin?

Let's go back, way back, to the Nabob Of Sob…

As Dexy's sang, "poor old Johnny Ray"…those aren't prehistoric IEM's, but hearing aids. For a while during his time in The Smiths, the Pope of Mope Morrissey would wear old clunky ones onstage in tribute.

'Honey' was one of those tunes I used to instantly change the station when it came on.

This one I liked, though not a tearjerker

Purely coincidental, this was spinning when my first high school girlfriend called with the inevitable "Dear John"(or would that be 'dear Mike'?)phone conversation…

Oh the irony. Then, just to twist the knife, the follow-up track has this chorus…
"Oh, oh, oh, you keep hangin' 'round me,
And I'm not so glad you found me.
You're still doing things that I gave up years ago"

Ah, Lou, always got me through the tough times.
