Headstock opinion

I think I've got it! :hyper::hyper::hyper: After browsing e-bay for ideas, found this old Dupont blasting machine (how's that for a new bass name!) that has a metal logo plate attached to it that I think is PERFECT for a headstock logo:

Since it doesn't make sense to buy the whole damned thing just to pry off the metal plate, I've suggested to Scott to have a metal shop recreate the top portion of the plate (just the part that says "Dupont blasting machine No. 30"). I'd like to use the exact same font and "wavy" pattern, and instead put a "No 1", as it's the first of it's kind. We'll also go for a "reliced" or vintage look to the plate, maybe in brass.

What do you guys think?

As long as the metal shop doesn't charge more than the ebay item cost. I actually like the weathered look of the original ebay item.

I just saw that the seller wants $2500 for it!! Stick with getting one made!!

^Yup, that's the reason why.
Thx for the photoshop!

Hey, just saw you have a U-bass too! How do you like it?
Mine's a "HOG", hollow, with the Aquila strings. Sounds as close to an upright as you can get!

this whole bass is turning out great!

I like the idea of the 'Blasting Machine' plate; very cool! And I think a matched stain/colour on the headstock (possibly even the back of the neck!) to compliment the body would look really classy, while maintaining your want of simplicity.

Scott is on it already. We've been e-mailing back and forth since last night! Neck is already stained amber, gives it a nice "vintage" look. We'll also do an engraved neck plate with the same logo.

Guess this will be as close to a "matching headstock" as we'll get. This thing will look amazing!

I love my little Kala. I have a spruce top lined fretless and just use the standard strings playing through a Phil Jones Bass Cub. Great when traveling to have a jam as everything can be carried on a bicycle!

Cool. Thinking about defretting mine. How hard could it be on a 20-inch scale?

Where in Australia are you? I have a mate, Stuie, who works at Sydney Adventist Hospital. He has two offices, one in Wahroonga, and another in Castle Hill (he's a fellow Hand Surgeon, like myself). Just in case, you never know. Cheers!

I'm on the other side of the country about 4,000km from Sydney! But I'm waiting for my new Ampeg head & cabinet to arrive from Castle Hill tomorrow!

Thanks "Tangle" just now saw it myself. OK, here it is:

This is version 1.0 of the headstock artwork. Let me know what y'all think. Be "gentle" with your comments, this was a lot of work for Scott. I really like it. I'll probably go with something similar for the neckplate. Hope y'all like it!
