tell me about Super Ferrite pickups...need info...

You have the angel mount pickup? If you are experiencing string fall off and have tried height adjustment , etc and still have the issue we can make a full custom pickup to solve the issue. It requires a custom cut exposed blade. Did this with a Bass recently that had the same issue
also love that bass vi bodied 4 string. I'm sure it sounds killer with your pickups.

Love this thread. Just got a peavey t20 yesterday, 1981. Today I looked under the pickguard and pickup is huge underneath, like the size of a mudbucker. Does anyone know about that version of the ferrites?
Yeah, this? (images from reverb)

Huge magnets. Carried over from the T40 pickups?

Lolz .

How many leftover boxes of ceramic magnets did peavey have in stock to pay for that crazy cover..... They must have really wanted to get away from the two coil pickup and metal covers.
Haha!
Chip Todd has mentioned that the T60 pickup is a better sounding pickup for bass than the T40 one. However, the T60 pickup didn't have wide enough string spacing to work with a bass. He also mentioned that he would have redesigned the T40 pickup to sound more like the T60, but times changed and they moved on to the SFs and then the more standard designs, like the split coil P and J type pickups in later bases.

Hey Super Ferrite fans. Sadly I am letting go of this very cool custom bass that I've shared here. It absolutely nothing to do with @Matt Kustom 's superb pickups, which are some of the best I've ever heard, and all to do with stuff I got going on. Here's the classified: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/

I liked your post @Evanforbass not because I like that you are letting her go but because this...is a hot@ss bass that I know sounds fantastic. Someone needs to snap her up and keep her in the TB family.

Small order of Ceramic magnets arrived. These can do any ceramic based P bass or split J. If anyone wants SF-P feel free to DM. View attachment 5242981 View attachment 5242980
I just stumbled across this thread and your website. Listening to the extensive soundclips page I definitely like the sound of the "Split Coil" on the SF Sound Clips page. Is this a Super Ferrite style pickup in a typical P-Bass configuration?

Also, could you confirm the dimensions of the repro SF pickups? I'm curious for a custom build I'm planning for next year.

@Matt Kustom makes super ferrite split coils in both the Peavey super ferrite single coil form factor (in-line split coil) and in a Precision bass pickup form factor. I'll let Matt take it from here...

Hello.
The Split SF is just that. Split in half. There is only enough split to fit the two coils wire. It is basically a P Bass but both coils ride the same magnets so the wiring is a bit different internally. The bobbins are a bit smaller than a SF P bass to fit in the new cover. Cover is a 3D printed copy of the original Peavey cover

Ahh cool, so it's a split pickup under the same shell... linear humbucker with the same exterior appearance as a standard single coil SF?
Could you share the dimensions of the pickup shell?

Anyone wanting info on these pickups. These are full custom pickups built to fix the string signal fall off issue with the factory pickups. To remedy this issue with a Humbucker sized pickup route without modification to the bass White Humbucker covers were sourced and laser cut to accept the U.S. steel hand cut T shaped 1018 steel blades. Blades were cut , shaped , polished and nickel plated in house. Custom laser cut bobbins were made to fit the Humbucker route and wound with U.S. poly wire. 7 string guitar ceramic magnets were used to make sure the signal is as wide as possible. Pickups are shielded like factory Peavey. Lead wire is Mogami. I built these to see if I could fix the factory issue. They are very time consuming and probably will not make anymore as they would be expensive due to time of build. Making the T shaped blades by hand takes a long time to make them not look like they were cut by hand. Fitting and polishing takes a long time. Setting up the laser to cut the covers is tricky to get perfect. It was rewarding to know the issue of such a cool bass was remedied.

This 3D print cover is just a demo we use for mock up. It did not pass QC . The marks on this cover are not on what's for sale. The only change to the cover dimensionally are the gussets to the mounting tab to add strength
