Tell the difference: reddi vs no reddi

I wasn't sure where to post this, it might be better in Recording gear and equipment forum, but since reddis are heavily discussed in this forum I decided to post here. Mods, feel free to move it.

I wanted to make 2 tracks, one with reddi and another one without it just to compare the two and to hear the difference (if any?). So the signal path is fender jazz > reddi > apogee duet > logic for one track and fender jazz > apogee duet > logic for the other track.

It's a simple, home-recording-type set-up without any signal processing other than described above. There was no other pre or post processing, no pedals, no compression, no eq, nothing. What you hear is what I recorded, one track with reddi included, the other without it. See if you can tell the difference. I placed both bass recordings on the same drum groove.

Through my speakers to my ears the two are pretty close but bear in mind that this was a completely amateurish recording set-up so don't take it as a definite and totally objective representation and evaluation of reddi because it might just be that I made a mistake somewhere thus making advantage for one or the other way. The difference might also be more prominent with better recording equipment in a real studio or whatever, I don't know.

I'm curious if you guys can tell the difference so I'm going to leave it at that for couple of days and then give the results. Vote for track that was recorded with reddi.

Very very close indeed! Clip 2 seems to have a tad more warmth and 'in your face' kind of character, but I can't tell if it's the REDII or just slight variations in attack and playing postions which could account for the difference too. But hell, I'll play. 1 = clean, 2 = REDDI.

The difference between the two is pretty subtle! To me clip 2 sounds like there is something slightly flattering going on, so I'm guessing that's the Reddi.

Subtle differences, but I like the #1 more, it sounds more polished. But can't tell which is REDDI.

I find track 2 sounds more lively. Sounds better, but it's subtle.

I'd guess number 2 as the Reddi as well. Not having any experience with the Reddi, I couldn't be absolutely certain it's the Reddi's flavor, but there is a pretty distinct difference in tone between the two tracks. Track 2 seems to have some more midrange frequencies present than the 1st track, and feels a littler more round and slightly less scooped.

I have no experience with the DI so just interested in the results. If I was to make a blind guess #2 has slightly higher gain and loss of detail beyond that I don't want to offend any users.

I can spot the REDDI a mile away. The heaviness in the high notes is what gives it away. Track 1 is decent and very usable. Track 2 is amazing. Not even close for me. I always like to hedge my guesses and say it's awfully close to call so I don't look like a yahoo, but I'm 99.9% confident that #2 is the REDDI track.

And it better be after that post!

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that #2 is the reddi di. The signal seems warmer and less damped - more tube like. But I could be way off.

Nope, probably not enough difference to matter to me, and I would prefer more actual low bass for at least a few bars. How did you gain match?

it doesn't matter-
both are nearly identical.
add a band mix to it and it will be the same.

I'd say #2 on the REDDI just seems to have a little more "weight" to it.

Wow, I'm shocked at how many say they're both identical. To me, there's a night and day difference. No way you put them in a mix and they'll come across identical, especially on the high notes.
