I've casually played with this group for the last 20 years whenever my main band wasn't gigging. They also had a couple other bassists they could call up in a pinch. Their gigs are usually standard classic rock with a few current radio rock songs. The rooms are usually really easy and they've played them every few months, over the last 15 years (so they could get away with murder).
They had a gig when I wasn't available and their other 'call-ups' were gigging too, but they kept the booking, confident they'd find someone before the night. Apparently they left it to the last night and still didn't have a player. The drummer drove around (downtown Vancouver) and found a 17 yr old at a bus stop. He told it went like this:
drummer 'hey is that a bass?'
young bassist 'umm, .........yeah'
drummer 'you doing anything tonight? wanna gig?'
young bassist '.....ok'
He only started playing a few months earlier, they yelled out the changes, and it was a room they played 100's of time before so the bar owner gave them allot of rope. The drummer said the bassist had a great time, even got drunk and partied with them after the gig.

Singer is the ex-drummer.
Drummer used to be a big fan and went to all their old shows. Now he plays for them.
We have decent age differences. 18 (me) to 33 (lead guitar).
Not that unusual compared to other people but other than that, we're pretty much your average drunken, partying rock band.

Okay I have more I just thought about I was in this band called The Hops and our drummer was legally blind! Both the lead guitarist and myself have heart conditions from birth and the singer and I have Sciatica both caused by a football injury

Our guitarist and I used to be roommates in the 80's. He was actually the first to teach me guitar. Towards the end we didn't get along so we went our separate ways and lost touch for <18 years>..... fast forward to this past summer: we're both now in our (cough) 40's -- He Facebooks me out of the blue and notices I am in a band playing bass. I invite him out to see us. That band had TONS of issues and I was already looking to get out, so we talked after the gig and we ended up forming a new band together. 3 months later were on stage!
I'm the oldest in one band by over 10 years. I'm in another band in which I'm the youngest by 10 years.
So far the most unusual thing seems to be the Guitarist in post #48 admitting that Bass was difficult
My soundman runs it from the floor while playing keys, backup vocals, and in the future maybe a little guitar.
Our drummer replaced Ringo Starr in the band he left to join the Beatles.
The Band leader used to be Band Master of the Royal Marines.

I'm in a 3 piece band. I was the supervisor at work for the drummer and guitar/vocals. The guitar/vocals qiut his job to start a new business and wants me to work for him and is not wanting to get "pay back" for me. We've been playing together for 2 years with no "personality conflicts".
#48 is good. i got sick a few months ago & took the night off & the 2nd guitar player thought he would fill in for me since this was our weekly acoustic gig. i am pretty sure he played the riff to the first song about 3 times before going to the root for the rest of the night. he told me he has no clue how i play this thing!
My second guitarist is content playing through his VOX AC30 and doesn't want a Marshall half-stack ! He also ALWAYS plays clean with no effect pedals, EVER.
My lead guitarist is a Jew.
My drummers flirts with waitresses at restaraunts.
We go to the same restaraunt every week.
The singer/rhythm player(who cant really do either) has referred to everyone else in the band as 'auxillary musicians'.
I use effects.(i got told by two other bass players that "bassists dont use effects")
I hate roundwounds.
Lastly, we've played an all-black rally for a city mentoring program.(we were one of two bands with white guys. Which isn't bad, but some people kind of thought we were out of place, but they were all white guys and it was a pretty great show.)

In my family of 4, 3 of us are lefties (including me). I too play bass righty.
