Texting before every Band Rehearsal...why?

I agree. I'm not actually the ogre I make myself out to be sometimes and when it would happen with my one problem child we wouldn't make her sit in her car, but it was a source of smoldering resentment - 'cause instead of really being an ogre I'm actually too nice to say, "why are you always here so da*ned early?"

You sort of know someone's attempting to convey enthusiasm, and that's a good thing, so you don't want to dampen their spirit, but you also want that part of your life back, because the reality was that it was pushing my dinner hour up into "barely digested my lunch yet" territory and I don't really want to be thinking that much about what's for dinner at 4 PM. The solution I devised worked well, nobody got their feelings hurt, and I get to plan my late afternoons with a little more breathing room. I anticipate now that someone could get here anywhere from 6:30 to 6:45 and my singer will arrive just before 7:00, which is pretty much what I was hoping for before, so I get the results I want and everyone's happy-- except for a couple of people on the internet.
Yeah, I think you and I are pretty similar in some of these ways. I'm an introvert and I like the ability to count on my space being mine when I want it to be mine, so I just never go there, have never had rehearsals at my house. Some jams, recording stuff, but all on my terms and not very often. I'd rather drive an hour!

Man, I had this experience with my old rockband, but that was because (towards the end) whoever was asking was usually looking for a reason to cancel. That and once we were all getting in our cars/already on the road as our practice space was 20 to 30 minutes away only to get a text asking about cancelling. We object, and realize "asking" was really just trying to cover that our keyboardist was 3 sheets to the wind already and couldn't drive.

In my current group, I was the texter just because I was used to having to make sure. It was better than potentially getting out there only to be 30 minutes from home and potentially having to go back down I35 north of Dallas again because practice was cancelled for a dumb reason.

Took a little while to break the habit, but it was a trust thing. For us it's an understanding of "Practice is on, it's at the same time. It'll be mentioned if that is not the case for any reason. It'll be mentioned before the day of as well". I have yet to be burned after 2 years so as long as that continues to be the case, I'm ok not confirming anymore

One band I was in needed a text almost every week.
Drummer would fall asleep before rehearsal. 2nd geetarist
was in a bar & BL was always late.
I was in a band for a long time with a member who was mentally ill and, as a consequence, forgetful. It was very important that someone remind him each week that we were expecting him to show up.

Am I supposed to dismiss that guy because he has a memory problem due to meds, for not being "mature enough" to handle his responsibilities? I think not.

I ended up dismissing him anyway, for different reasons, but needing a reminder to come to rehearsal wasn't even on the radar.

Our start-up band has been rehearsing on the same night of the week since we started it. We all know it and we discuss it at the end of each rehearsal. Even so, one member of the band will always text on the day of practice "Are we still practicing tonight?" We're all adults and all should know and remember about band practice. It bugs me that he keeps doing this. Why does it bug me so much and how can I get him to stop doing it?

(I know a lot of you don't rehearse but that isn't the topic here, okay?)
There's another thread that talks about texting before a rehearsal. Theirs had been called off at short warning without everyone being told. Your man is showing good foresight; go with it.

Texting before every Band Rehearsal...Should I???
