Th Official Fender Musicmaster Bass Club

Has anyone done reaming the early 70s tuner holes to fit a late 70s bigger tuner (lollipop ones)?
My 1974 came with the bigger tuner holes and the smaller logo dacal, love the look and no neck dive ;)

Hey, music masters. I’ve been curious about these little guys, and found some threads from about 10 years ago placing the value around US$300-600. Now I’m seeing them priced US$1,200-1,800. I know the used/vintage market has been wild lately, but I’m curious what this group thinks about it. I know they’re quirky student basses, but it seems like lots of people enjoy them. Would you pay today’s prices for them?

well if they were $150-200 back in 70s, that’d be about $1500 in today’s currency.

Honestly, no.
I bought some for 600 - 800 Euros several years ago, but that was my maximum. I was curious that time, if 1971 Musicmaster Basses would be better than the later ones, but, no, they just were a bit different. I went with Squier Bronco Basses instead. I still have 2 Musicmasters and 2 Bronco basses, but sold the other ones, as they were untouched. The basses I kept are all heavily modified and therefore of no value to "collectors". The current "reverb" prices (>2,000 €) are pretty outrageous for my taste.

Every MM I see online has the oversize neck pocket that is typical of the sloppiness of 1970s Fenders. Besides the ugliness, do you find those necks jiggle in the pocket?

Sharing my unique MM with the group.

I can't read the year on the neck. The pickup I pulled was dated 1974. The original color was daphne blue which had been stripped off at some point in its life. The reverse side of the pickguard is pearl. I had it refinished by the skilled folks at MJT in a stunning Lake Placid with minimal aging to match the rest of the body. Logo is a bit of curiosity. Enjoy!

wow, just beautiful

Here's my '76, was all original with the hangtag/owner's guide and chipboard case...sucks there's no good aftermarket bridges for them so I had to track down another vintage mm bridge and modify that to keep everything reversible

Hello everybody !
New member here, from France !
Here is my beloved 77 musicmaster bass. I love this thing ! All original except the pickup (don’t know which one it is, but it has four pole) and the blue cap removed. Equipped with Ernie Ball roundwounds. I play it with my garage / psyche rock band and it sounds awesome !
Have a great day everyone !

PS : may I ask please for a member number ? Thanks
