I ended up getting two of these for free (long story) and they're nice, I guess. The funny thing with Victor Wooten being the artist behind the new cable is that you can't hardly hear the difference at all with bass.
We tested it a bunch with an Orange Tiny Terror, and we could hear a SLIGHT difference. Was it very noticeable? No. Were we standing in awe at the greater tone we achieved? No. A slight increase on the low end, and a nice mid. But it's relative at best, as the best we got was a shoulder shrug, and an "Um, I THINK I can hear a difference" from some people. I suppose there are audiophiles out there who would jump on those slight differences, but it's hard to think of 'normal' working musicians spending that kind of money on a power cable. Maybe in a studio, where every last little bit of tonality it worth spending tons of money on?
That aside, let's assume that these idiosyncrasies are noticeable to everyone. One thing they don't mention on the site is that these are extremely annoying! The cable is so thick that it's very annoying to wrap, you cannot coil it to a usable radius, and it won't fit in my guitar case. I have to carry a separate bag just for this cable (which is included with each cable). It's also so thick and heavy, that it doesn't conform to any other shape very well. So when you plug it in, if you need it to turn at any angle, it will strain against the connection points at each end trying to retain it's shape. Meaning that the IEC end wants to wiggle loose from the rear of my SVT. Also - it's only 6' long! An SVT on top of my 810 in a road case is too tall for it to reach from stage drop to my SVT's IEC inlet. Let alone if you have a stage drop you need to share with anyone, and can't keep dangling behind your cabinet all night, shaking around and potentially coming loose. If you're using a rack head, then maybe it would be different. But then, wouldn't this cable being going into a power strip that then gets plugged into a stage drop? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?
All in all, I lost an SVT's power cable once between shows. I grabbed the power cable from a PC and used that. My SVT did sketch out and sound noticeably bad. However, it doesn't take $200 to remedy that. I bought this 15' power cable ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]), and it sounds great! I actually run two of these $18 cables; one to my head and one to my PedalTrain. Easy to coil, plenty of length to get to any power source, and they sound great.
