The 2008 Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

hey Implosion, how much NHL coverage can U get in Finland. I've been there many times but only saw games every now and again on TV. We're thinking about spending more time there but I'll die without NHL. Is there a satellite subscription possible????

Well you can subscribe a Canal+'s sport package from your local operator or whoever is selling the package. According to Canal's website they show (regular season + playoffs + finals) nearly 200 games in a year. Also in the package there are Slapshot and Hockey Night in Canada -shows. Although some of the games have got Finnish commentary there are also english commentary games. You also get NBA, MLB, NCAA, NASCAR with the package. And of course Finnish and Swedish hockey leagues and soccer, tennis etc.

I really can't tell much of the package because I have never subscribed it myself but I've never heard anyone complain about it.

I had a gig last night and forgot to DVR the game. :(

I'm a day late with this...so for future reference-
VERSUS does replay the games...usually the day after. Example: The Philly game you missed was re-played at about 5pm EDT on Friday afternnon. I was lucky enough to re-live the last 5 minutes.
;)

Febs.....Bard......you guys know how to watch the games streaming live on your PC? It was mentioned earlier in this thread. The guys who run that site for streaming the game can hook you up with replays of the games. I am going to log in and record game five tomorrow.

Where are the Stars and Wing fans? This series is heating up all of the sudden.

For sure! Turco finally wins one at The Joe! And he picked a great time. But he will have to win another there to pull this out. I want to see it, but Detroit is so good, I am having a hard time believing it will happen. But I have to wonder if this is starting to get into the heads of the Wings just a bit, the possibility of blowing a 3-0 lead...

GO STARS!!!

this could get interesting...I think the stars can pull a win in game 6 at home, especially after yesterday's game in detroit....

if they can get to a game 7 i dont know what will happen...but beating detroit twice at home is just sick...

and by the way, cross checking to the face? really?

I used to be a Red Wing fan back in the day, and then the NHL began its downward spiral. This is the first time in several years I actually watched some games, and even the games the Wings win are called so badly I can't stomache it.

I think it was game 4 against the Stars when I saw a completly legitiment goal called back for no reason, then that douche Gary Bettman actually DEFENDED the call. And they wonder why the NHL is considered a joke.

Gary Bettman is a typical Lawyer, and lawyers are never wrong. He is a complete arse. It was a goal, no question. At least the NBA who have plenty of lousy officials, still will admit when one obviously gets it wrong. The other question I have is why is (in the crease) not reviewable? The crease is a curved line, their is NO way an official can get it right all the time unless he's in a tower over the net.

The Red Wings didn't lose the game because of that call, but the ironic thing is one of the Stars goals they were in the crease and no call.

Being in the crease is no longer reason enough to call off a goal. This rule was changed due to the infamous Brett Hull goal in '99. A player can be in the crease, however he cannot interfere with the goaltender's ability to stop the puck. The call in game 4 on Holmstrom was wrong. However, in the first game, there was a goal allowed that should not have been.

In today's NHL, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If a team is unhappy with something, all it needs to do is complain about it to the press, and they're generally afforded some makeup calls. This seems to be happening in every series, and I don't see it being pointed more emphatically at any one team over any other. Unfortunately, the overall quality of the games diminishes as a result of this, and everybody walks away unhappy.

Draper certainly got away with one there. Should have been called.

There has been an abundance of missed calls on both sides. In every game, there's been something that should have been called, but wasn't. This applies to both sides. I distinctly recall seeing Ott whack Holmstrom in the back of the legs about four times in one sequence. That should have been called, too.

I guess my beef is that there's no consistency. I recognize that the referees are human and miss things, as well as make mistakes, but my hope is that, regardless of the team, the player, or the time of the game, a penalty should be a penalty.

I'm a Wings fan, for what it's worth, but I hate to see the sport cheapened by these things.

They did get outplayed that game, but that call did change the momentium.

Not saying they would have won the game had the goal counted, but a call like that could certainly affect the direction of the game.

The refs in these games are awful. And these are suppose to be the best. I never remember calls being this bad 10-15 years ago when they only had one ref on the ice.

I am going to summarize every Bad Brain's posts regarding hockey in this one. This is service i provide for BB for free to save him time and effort. From now on all he needs to-do is link this post in his hockey post with out saying any extra words.

On to summarization: "15 years ago hockey was so much better then now, even though i was like 4 at time, it was sooo much better. Hockey today sucks, 15 years ago it was awesome. Now: sucks, 15 years ago: GREAT! I hate hockey! Hockey was ruined for me 15 years ago, because it was great then, but now... sucks!"

You're welcome buddy, i am here to please.
