The "210 Cab Recommendation" Light is Lit!

I'm getting on in years and play out too much to continue schlepping heavy gear. It took me a year of research and trying out different class D amps before I bought a GK MB200 and an MB500. Now it's time to check on the new brigade of lighter 210/112 cabs. This is where I need y'alls help.

I've been looking (just looking, not yet playing!) at the TC Electronic RS210 and RS112 and the MarkBass Traveler 102P and New York 121. All are light and within my price point. I'm trying to find a swiss army knife in that I need to have variety of options depending on the gig, like the 112 for small gigs, the 210 for medium and the 210/112 config for big gigs.

Does anyone have opinions on these cabs ....or any other similar in weight/price.

Of course, quality of the cab's sound is a HUGE concern, but it gets so pedantic trying to explain the tonal charactistics I'm trying to get since I play so many different styles. If it helps, the new GK amps I bought are right on the money for the tight, punchy lows I like (there I go 'esplaining!) Thanks in advance!

I have a 4 ohm Avatar NEO 210 that has served me well, and will continue to do so. I also have an 8ohm Avatar B210 and an 8 ohm Avatar 112. As you can see, I've been diggin' Dave's work for years, but the footprint/weight of those cabs (combined with a serious case of GAS) has me begging for a change.

I am thinking about 8 ohm each for the 210 and 112, that would give me max headroom of a 4 ohm load, yet wont hurt me too bad if I break 'em up for smaller gigs.

As far as price, I figure:
210 = $500-$600
112 = $400-$500

...of course BEFORE discounts! :)

I am curious about the fEARful designs, but I still don't know enough about 'em.

For a single cab option that is 4 ohms fEARful might be a tad out of your price range. The Audio Kinesis Thunderchild is similar, but I believe it comes in a 4 Ohm option. What head are you going to be using?

Add the Carvin BRX10.2 to your "to check out" list. US-made, $389, 54lbs (so 8lbs heavier than the TC).

Like most cabs, they probably don't go quite as low or as loud as their official specs claim, but they do sound pretty good. If you do a TB search for BRX you'll find a number of owner reviews.

I recommend checking out the Ampeg 210SVT.

Also +1 to the DIY route. The fEarful 12/6 might be just what you're looking for. I also have a stack of 2 BFM Jack 10s which are plenty loud for any application.

I was also looking at the little 210 SVT cab (y'know, the one that looks like a mini version of an SVT stack) they look really portable, i.e.: light, but I'm not sure of the punch. To be honest I am very much on the fence about mixing driver sizes. I mean, back in the day you wanted a Gauss 18" to go with your little 215! I personally like 10s, it may be purely opinion on my part with no real science to back it up, but it just seems like there is tight punch and very responsive transients with 10's. And what's better is that a properly tuned cab can give you all the depth of the big guns, but with none of the sloppiness.

That said, I am thinking about trying something that lends itself to line array. I'm 6'4" and would love to be able to see my dials mid show! I will be using either my GK MB200 or MB500 with this rig.

I recently just purchased a carvin brx 410 neo 1200W at 4ohms. Right now I am playing it along with my Avatar 210 neo at 8ohms. Is it worth it to get the BRX 210 at 8ohms to match my 410? Or just save some bucks and leave it how it is. I have always heard it is best to match cabs, but how different are they really?

Schlepping days are over.... Club 102....31 lbs. each.

Awesome cabs. I used 2 of the vertically, and absolutely love them. I'll be putting them up for sale this weekend- PM me if interested...

+1! Same situation here...

My solution was going to two, 40 lbs. each, 8 ohm, Avatar Neo 210 cabinets stacked as a vertical 410 powered by a G.K. MB-500 head.
Both cabinets and the heads weight combined is less than the 90 pound SVT tube head that I used to drag around!
Plus, use one cab for rehearsals/small gigs, both cabinets when more coverage and volume is needed.

I have to admit that I'm really leaning toward the same thing shoot-r. I played an outdoor wedding gig Saturday night for at least 350 people (seemed like more) mains were 2x15 with horn JBLs, 1200 watt system. My little 4 ohm Avatar 210Neo/MB500 combination rocked the joint. Never got it past 9:00 ...and we got LOUD!

What's funny is, I was going to buy 2 Ampeg 210AV's earlier that day, we've got three GCs here in Austin and none of them had 'em. Was kinda glad they didn't. I just wish the Avatars were a little lighter!
