The Acoustic Club

was not able to get the trade up for the B450 last week,but......

looky what I scored today.....for $200.....great condition, amp is a little scratchy (pots need a good cleaning) - cab just needs a little sprucing up. Over all....hell yes! loud as hell and tone out the arse!

A friend / band mate found it in a out of the way music shop whilst playing out of state gig with another band. Found it,called me with details, hauled it back today...sweet!!!

I know I already have a number but would this constitute a letter added (#305 b ?)

pic of head & one of the full package beside my Franken-rig. :bassist:

You are a thief plain and simple! Even if you payed triple the money for that rig you couldn't have done any better either modern or vintage. You wanna have some real fun and watch someone have a heart attack? Plug a guitar in and CRANK the knobs. You wont believe the tone you'll get from this little guy.

Find yourself a 104 ( 6-10 cabinet) and another 150/140 and then run the two of them side by side. It's a little more space/work/loading than using two 4-10 cabs but you'll flat out punch yourself in the brain after you hear the sound. Hero worship time (Love Killing Joke FWIW).

@ bottomend,

I've bounced around there a few times.but will surely be spending more time there.

This things kicks....I plugged my B200 into the cab too....holy poo poo Batman....even that way is killer. Going spend some quality time cleaning this thing from top to bottom and getting the crackle out of the amp.

in love already

Experiment with the tone controls on the 150. I was really really surprised at how much flexibility the head had for only being equipped with a bass and treble knob. It can go from the nastiest mid pluck to the deepest thud to the most clear top end. Really amazing honestly...

Billgoodwin,
Awesome purchase! a couple years back I paid $125 for a ACC Model 126 (1 x 15 Combo w/slider 5 band Eq.) I don't think the folks who happened to be working the Used Equip. at GC at the time knew that you had to attach a cord from the speaker to the head. The Power Boost doesn't work but it dosen't need to.:D A year or so later I happened across a ACC 140 head for $150. Not such a steal but I love them both. IMO, as old as they are, they are right up there with B200H (newer MIC acoustic amplification), actually better in my experience in that I sent two B200H's back (mine were too noisey for me) before I settled on a B600H. Anyhoo, Congrats! I'm drooling over your pic, especially of the cab.
Yes, listen to Bottomend, the forum over there is a great resource for us. There are a number folks who drop by and weigh in from time to time who were involved with Acoustic Control Corporation during their original heyday in the late 60's to early 80's as well as many very friendly knowledgeable and supportive technical acoustic (USA and MIC) enthusiasts.

I'm still drooling myself. Both pieces are in grand physical condition (me thinks they've been hiding out in someone's basement for the last couple decades). No tears, scuffs, scratches on the tolex of either (the cab has a little mold on grille, but nothing that can't been cleaned). The cone's don't even have dust on them...

I'm over excited to get the head back to top working order, plan on checking into the constant crackling noise tonight. Thought at first it might be that my house in old as crap and has old BMX cable (2 strand wiring/metal clad -no ground) but not it. We think something may have jiggled loose on the trip back from High Point.

To speak from my own experience as far as cosmetics on the Tolex, if you haven't already, try hitting it with a little original formula Armor All. I did that with both my 126 combo and 140 head. It blew me away how amazing it looked. Scary good brand spanking new. Although I learned many years ago (the hard way) not to use the original formula Armor All on my car's dash up near the windshield (Internal Glare City), the Armor All and the Tolex seem like they were a match made in heaven. If you field your "constant crackling" question over at The Forum (unofficialacousticcontrolcorp message board, I suspect that you should receive some great suggestions/advice there in due time. I agree with you in that I do not think it's you old house wiring (where's Bob Villa when you really need him....and his wallet?:D) because I 'm guessing at the time that amp was designed, the house wiring you speak of was found in a good 90% of homes.

a little wipe down with Armour All on the 106 cab and it looks like new, now to pop out the grille, give it a cleaning and this thing will be lookin' marvelous!

Tech still has the 150 head, gotta get the schematic's to him this week-end. Capacitor or a transistor is the culprit.

I just picked up this rig a few weeks ago from a good friend. He was unloading some gear because he moved out of the area. This rig belonged to a well-known bluegrass bass player who plays only p-bass. I play both a p-bass and upright. I have been using the 1x15 cab, but the head needs some work.

Pay no attention to the date stamp. The camera needs to be reset. I took this picture mid august 2011.

Geez, I learn something new everyday. I didn't know there was so much love for Acoustic. I need to get out more.

Can someone tell me what this is and whether its a good deal? It would be much appreciated.

(Just the amp and cab, I have no interest in the mixer.)

If the 150 works then it's a good deal. I don't know what the cabs are (Acoustic made a 6 x 10" cab = Model 104 but these look like 2 cabinets of 3 x 10" in each) - they look in rough shape but if you can get them for an extra $50 then you probably can't go wrong.
The 150 is a guitar amp and the 150b is for bass. The bass head is the 150 without the reverb or tremolo.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to Nick's observant eye, just found out I assigned someone a duplicate number, error has been fixed, and that inevitably means the following folks now have new numbers, one digit lower. This Owl apologizes for the error and asks for your forgiveness: :o

The new numbers:

Here's what I did with it.

Long read but, basically the amp head has a crossover mounted on a board. I moved the crossover board to the cab. The speaker extension jack in the cab is in parallel with its input jack.

Hey I read your rebuild, very cool!!! I had bought one of these on clearence. Returned due to a tear in one of the speakers that I had not noticed. They replaced it with a new still in box, never opened. When I got home found out the body was broken up. Kinda looked like your first pic. Was done in shipping. They gave me another new in box one and I inspected it in the store. They were of course very apolgetic and helped resolve the issue. I even got some free stuff. I wonder if that was the one I returned? That would be a small world if it was, lol!
