I ordered the B100 on Black Friday for $137.00 new and I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival, however I had a few questions about it; 1.) What does the frequency knob do? and 2.) If i need it to get louder can I just buy a cabinet and hitch it into the cabinet?

1) it's a notch filter...I believe to cut/boost the mids. Search "notch filter " & I'm sure you'll get a better explanation. Initially I hated it (too touchy) but it's growing on me. All the way left it has a very "modern" sound, 930-1130 it's a slappers dream (I don't), 1130-1230 is where I'm usually lurking, 1230 + has "old school" sound.
2) you can add an 8 ohm cab. Cuts watts, but is a little louder & fuller sounding. I've tried it and while it sounds good, it's not a very practical setup. B100 is great by itself in small situations/practice.

What cabinet are you using with the 370?

Right now I am using an Aguilar DB410 and Aguilar DB115, but I will probably move to a Sunn 2x15 with Eminence drivers by years end.

How are you finding the 410 and 115 together? A lot of TBers don't like mixing cabs with different drivers. Do you have the 115 on top? I think you may prefer the Sunn cab.

I've had this combination of cabinets for a little over a year now I believe, and I've liked them so far. Better than the Ampeg 8x10 that I had before that, IMO, but honestly I think that I could be getting more out of a two cabinet set up. I mean I really dig the 4x10 and I really dig the 1x15 separately (the 1x15 is great as a blues cabinet), but I feel like the two together aren't greater than the sum, ya know?

I run the 4x10 on top of the 1x15 (amp>410>115, btw) and honestly its hard to hear a REAL difference when the 1x15 is added to the setup. There is definitely some fullness (for lack of a better term) that is added, but whether that has to do with floor coupling, more air being moved or the 115 adding more "depth," I can't honestly say. And it could always be that the 4x10 is closer to my head which is imperative for me as we don't usually play places with good monitoring, and even if we do, I'm usually back by my amp without a monitor anyways, haha.

I have been feeling the pull back towards one big cab instead of two small(er) cabs for a while now (and I'm sure the great mismatched cabinet debate had nothing to do with it ) so I think that the Sunn will really work for me. The bassist in a band that my band started playing with recently called Manray plays through a Sunn style 2x15 that he built and it sounded amazing live. He was using a Sunn 300T, but said that he brings an Acoustic 370 as a back up on the road, so I can't imagine the tone would be all that dissimilar, overall. Of course, my bass is gonna sound like me and everything, yada yada yada.

My main concern with the 2x15, and this could be corporate marketing mind you, is that it won't be as punchy and defined as a stack of tens would be. Any thoughts?

It's all about the tone you're looking for. I'm old school. When I got back into bass a couple of years ago, I ended up buying a Hartke LH1000 with a 410 Hydrive. I was disappointed. Then I added a 115 Hydrive. Still wasn't enough. I finally got a "Mole" bass boost. This came close to what I was after. I guess 10" speakers just don't do it for me. That's why I jumped at the new Acoustic 360/361 when it finally came out. Mind you, an Acoustic 320 with a 408 cabinet was always to die for IMHO. A lot of TBers don't care for the low, rumble style bass sound. I think your 370 with the Sunn will do just fine.
What tone are you looking for?

I've been drooling after a 408 (or the new Monolith reproduction) for a while now, especially once I heard that Matt Freeman from Rancid used one for a long time (big influence), but I feel like that would be bordering on too much...at least for now. I personally think that I would love it, but sound guys on the other hand....thats a different story . Plus when we are on the road, we will go from a nice music hall (where the 408 would do nicely) to a small DIY venue (where it would be too much) and everything in between. That is why I have put the 408 on the back burner for the time being and decided to shoot for a 2x15 as it may be best for more types of shows in the immediate future.

While I totally dig that super smooth round "old school" type of bass sound, I'm more into that more modern grindy type of sound. I need a lot of clarity (i.e. opposite of mud) and I like a fair bit of grit to my signal too, though I like to be able to tame that with my hands. I'd say my current set up (I play a BTB676) is like 96% there. The only real gripes I have with my sound are minor ones.

I feel like the signal from my bass is too hot for the input on the 370, and even though I play through the 2nd channel, it is still too overdriven sounding when we play. We play loud. Very loud, and sometimes I feel like I have to push the amp just past the "sweet spot" to get it where I want. If I back the volume on the bass a bit, it cleans up nicely (one of the things that I love about the 370), but I don't have the time/finesse to mess with my volume knob live.

P.S. I love being way underneath the guitars in my band, and that low, full, lush rumble that comes from a big cabinet is something that I've always loved. I want it to really rumble everyone when I'm playing.

P.P.S I'm playing with different ways to make the input thing work either by using a boost pedal (the Wren & Cuff Phat Phuk B) to cut the signal and just leave it on until I actually need a boost, or get a compressor or new PUPs or something...I'm not sure yet.

Sounds like you're on the right track to "finding yourself". Don't let the guitarists bully you.

I'm hooked on 15's...have been for along time. My 150 head into the 106 is fierce and just for craps & giggles, I run my B200 into the 106 @practice...just to annoy everyone else. It will peel skin off if I let it.

I own a B-100*B-20*and an AB-50 for my Acoustic/Electric Bass.. Got pics if needed..
