The Acoustic Club

So no point in changing it anyways, eh?

For anyone not comfortable with doing their own work it's one of those things that if you were having an amp tech in there for servicing other things I might inquire if he could change the neon bulb for cheap, otherwise I wouldn't bother. The original indicator light part is unobtainium, so a tech would have to be willing to carefully pry off the red plastic lens and surgically replace just the neon bulb. I've got it down to a science, so it's no big deal for me.

Thinly disguised ACC 360 RIG?
I was watching this cool Sly footage, and was like, wait! In amongst the Peavey backline is what looks like a 360 dressed in white tolex behind the bass player!
I'd like to know the story behind that. Needless to say the bass sound is humongous.:D

I don't think there's a fairy tale story behind those 360's, I think they were just custom made for the band. Just like Larry's Moon bass.
The rigs are probably trashed by now, at least cosmetically. If not probably in various music museums or Larry Graham's house

Congrats on the possession of a truly historic and great amplifier. The pic of your 361 in front of the windows with the beautiful view outside brought back many memories and made me FEEL GOOD. I used to have 3 of the Acoustic 361 powered cabs and one 360 head to control all of the cabs, when we were playing and touring back in the late 6os and early 70s. I usually only used two 361 cabs so the third was virtually unused and sat at home in my mothers closet. After a fire destroyed my working rig in a middle of the night after gig fire(the head and two cabs), for about 30 years that 3rd cab sat in that closet pristine in its cover without a scratch. Finally, I decided to get my cab out of the closet and have it shipped to me across 1000 miles and placed in front of a set of windows with a view just like yours. I decided to see if I could find another 360 head, but after a couple of fruitless years of looking, a buyer found me and purchased my pristine cab sitting in the window. I have an old pic of it somewhere.
But just just one word of caution Dr Feelgood, playing that amp too loud might literally blow those windows. When I was practicing at high volumes almost daily with my band in our basement in the 60s and 70s, my mom used to complain about having to change the light bulbs about once a month, but then later she also started to notice something else...small cracks in the glass of our large walkout basement windows, that gradually but steadily grew in size. until we stopped practicing there. She swore it was from my bass amp. But she was a great mom , God rest her soul. She never complained other wise...she felt the band was good for our creativity, intelligence, that it kept us busy and out of mischief-I mean what other kids had jobs that kept them busy 70-90 hours a week practicing, traveling, setting up, tearing down, learning songs, putting up posters , getting gigs, etc, and best of all playing gigs and meeting other musicians who said" Damn-you guys are good, you wanna go on tour with us"?... which would get us out of school...but only if we kept up our grades. Oh I could go on.... Thanks for triggering the memories.

Thanks for the compliments!
It's actually a 371, the cab is not powered. But I'm glad it brought back memories, it sucks that your main rig was a victim to a fire!
I don't play it around the house at any extensive volume, not yet at least. A music room in the basement is in the planning stages.
My mom doesn't like me playing at any volume that she can hear, but my dad on the other hand, he'd rather me play loud and amplified than playing unplugged.
Thanks for sharing those awesome stories. I recently bought a 1962 Precision off of the second owner, he owned it since 1964. I sat in his kitchen listening to similar stories for a couple hours! He played all over Canada, Michigan, Greenland, etc. through the 60's and 70's. I'm glad I helped trigger some good memories

Quick question: none of the older Acoustic bass heads ever had reverb on them, correct? Only guitar heads???
I believe that is correct, that no bass heads included reverb, but most ss guitar heads were built just as tough as the bass heads, so guitar heads routinely get used for bass.
My 270 guitar head has reverb and tremolo. I've not spent much time with it yet. It's rooming at my very swamped tech's shop.

The whole guitar/bass head designation was mostly marketing, so the guitar heads were simply bass heads with effects added. The 270 was a 370 with reverb, tremelo, fuzz circuits added, the 230 was a 220 with reverb and master volume circuits added, same for the 330 vs the 320. The power amps were interchangeable in both versions.

The only very minor difference to the underlying basic circuits on paper were minor tweaks to the EQ frequencies -- e.g. slightly higher graphic EQ bands and a slightly higher Bass knob center frequency -- but not enough to worry about. I like the guitar heads for bass because I like to play around with the effects, particularly the master volume, and besides, why not?

Recently went to buy a 361 from ABG

Is the owners personal amp

All original

Anyhow I walked away from it because it wasn't articulate in the least

Loud? Beyond Loud. Would feed back on @ 2!

Fuzz sounded cheesy and I wasn't willing to buy a rig to dump even more $$ into Very disappointed but I had my moment with the beast

Def had breath of Thor but no articulation like my 370
