not pictured is the acoustic 404 6x12 i just picked up for 200 bucks. it's in almost mint condition! if played with enough treble so as not to damage the speakers (this was actually a guitar cab) it sounds great!

i'm also having a very good condition 201 cab sent to me soon, and picking up a 270 head to match next weekend!

I am blown away with the history and knowledge you all have of this wonderful amp, I'm only a recent convert myself but man, I am impressed to the 50th power by what a good Acoustic amp can do!

That is a question I've asked many times here. Why it is that some can play out with so few watts and some need so many. There are guys on this forum that gig with 30-50-60-100 watts and others that can't even begin to dream of playing a small club without 500+watts. The question never fails to intrigue me.

it really just hinges on the volume they need and the band they play with as well as the tone they want.

When I first started I was using an Acoustic 150 into a Crate 212...that was fine except the Crate was a guitar cab and kept farting (the baffle just couldn't take it). I then went with a Polytone 101 (130W) and had to jumper channels (both were 130W) to get the volume I needed...I really liked the tone, but eventually the 15" speaker started to buzz out on certain notes.

For while I used an Acoustic B-3 (320W) with various cabs. Lots of clean headroom compared to the others I've had.

A few weeks ago I forgot my B-3 at home and used the 150 again since it was at the practice space. While the 150 is a lot dirtier sounding, I was able to get it just as loud as I needed and it works great with the Avatar 410 I'm using it with. Eventually I'd like to impedance match the cabinet (hopefully one of the newer Avatar B410s with the Neodymium speakers) so I can get more power, but until them 110W is working out great.

To an extent I agree. I do think that the modern hi-fi scooped tone that many players are after requires a lot more headroom and power. But I think we should also keep in mind how of us gigged throughout the 60-70's with 50-100-200 watts. The 360 and SVT's were king of the hill and they were 200/300+watts respectively. As was mentioned earlier most modern players wouldn't even bother trying out an amp w/ less than 500watts.

Wow, clearly it's been too long since I checked in here!

I have a bunch of Acoustics!

My first was a 136 combo, which a friend gave me about ten years ago. It had had a hard life and I thought it was old junk, but when I actually fired it up it sounded surprisingly good. Since I've learned more about them, I've cleaned it up, fixed some bad connections, and it is now the "go-to" bass amp in my rock'n'roll basement practice area. You can see it behind me in this picture:

Also visible in the background of that picture is my 220/406 rig, which is what I've used most recently for performing.

This is a different 406 (narrow vs. wide) that I don't have anymore, but I still have the 370 head pictured here. Also, you can see my little B20 in the background:

I've actually used the B20 for a gig, when we played an "acoustic" (ha ha) set at a house party:

Here's the 220 in action, through an Eden D410T (not enough room in the van for the 406 on that trip). Gotta love the feet on the side of the Acoustic heads!

...and finally, how about an Acoustic bass guitar? The amp in the picture is not mine (seller's pic), but I do own the Acoustic Black Widow bass now! This one was actually made for Acoustic by Mosrite:
