A cranked full Marshall stack? I think you're going to need a more powerful rig or better yet different more reasonable guitarist. ;)

see thats why i was thinking about getting an amp that could put alot of power to the 1x15 and the 4x10. the 1x15 goes to 250 and the 4x10 goes to 400, i at least figured that'd be enough.

but yeah, i can't get him to turn it down. he's lost a good bit of his hearing and he's only 20, me and my drummer wised up and got ear plugs. but now he turns it up louder. if he wasn't so good id find a different guitarist.

Bass-ic rule of thumb is you want roughly twice the wattage of your guitar player, but you need to consider the amount of speakers he runs, too. If you have the B200 combo and this guy was using a 50-watt half stack you may be able to compete, if he didn't turn it ALL the way up -- though wattage aside, he's running a lot more speaker area than you are. If he's using a 50-watt full stack (2 cabs), or (god forbid) a 100-watt full stack, you'll have to use something bigger (more speaker area for sure) than a B200 combo. I do think that using the head and 2 cabs would probably be adequate in most cases, and may even lend a good sound to the band by pushing lower-wattage speakers to the natural grind point.

I would never recommend the B200 as a heavy metal band amp, unless that band consists of reasonable, experienced folks who know that you can get the sound without the crushing volume -- which, while perfectly true, is just not as much fun. ;)

Those wattage ratings indicate what the speaker cabinet can handle, not their power output.

Unless your local scene is just begging for talent, you probably could find something as good or better. "Great" guitarists are a dime a dozen.

Once he is deaf he won't play nearly as well. All kidding aside, if you like the way he plays take him aside and just flat out tell that he's too loud and its very unpleasant (and unhealthy) to play at those levels. If he has a certain sound he's after ask him to use pedals or a smaller amp or whatever but its totally un-necessary to have that kind of volume.

excuse the derail,

Long time reader, first time poster here who just impulse bid and won on E bay Australia an Acoustic 220. Its in transit at the moment and I should have it later in the week.
The seller said it worked fine last time he used it but..... it has been in storage for the last ten years and he had no way to test it before listing.
So, I am just wondering if there is anything other than the electrolytic caps that I should check before I fire it up? Any advice appreciated and apologies if a tech question is out of place in this thread.

can a new guy join the club?

I'm pretty sure this has been covered a number of times if not in this thread in other Acoustic threads.

Anyhoo, yes there is a USA based company that includes some of the original designers of the 360 with plans to build an updated version of some of the higher end Acoustic amps including the 360. When are these to be available to the buying public is anybody's guess as its been 'in the works' for years and years.

If you haven't already. Try to google "unofficial acoustic" that should show you how to get to the messageboard forum that a bunch of folks have set up for both old and new Acoustic gear. It's a good place to go if you haven't already been, from time to time some of the guys who are actually "in the know" on the new USA Acoustic stuff pop in and try to share stuff as much as they can. Plus there are folks there who are involved with the new Acoustic (Not made in USA) which I'm really happy with. They've all been a great help. This place rocks too.

I felt the same way. I've been a guitarist primarily, so when I went in checking out amps it was totally blind. I started with the fenders, mainly because I tried one I liked a few years back. Moved on to the ampegs and hartkes. None of them did much for me tonally, but I was trying out MIM and MIC guitars, so I figured it was par for the course. I plugged an MIM Jazz into the B200 1x15 and was like, "Wow!" The bass came alive. I tweaked a bit and it sounded good all over. I immediately put cash down on both the B200 and the MIM Jazz. I have since brought both home and am quite happy.

A great amp: headroom enough for mid-sized gigs, and a long-awaited step backward to recapture all that was "right" about a sound that didn't necessarily aspire to be "perfect." Add to that the modern technology that makes possible a beefy 200-watter in a compact package, pinpoint EQ section, and tubey characteristics in the gain section, and you've got the sound that many of us look for. Definitely the sound that I look for.

It's a sound that's better than perfect; I call it musical.

That's the rig I'm saving up for!! Except it'll most likely be an SX P-Bass instead of an MIA Fender :( because I'm a broke 17-Year-Old :bassist: :D
