Watch out... The color is really nice. Like I wasn't expecting it to pop as much as it does. Photos do not do justice. I originally wanted the mint or sunburst as I'm generally not a fan of bright red... But wow, it's mesmerizing
Yeah it really Was difficult to decide which color i should go for. Sunburst looks amazing with the roasted maple and tort pickguard, but i already have a sunburst Fender bpass (the one you compared to 4 other Ps in a Video I watched yesterday
)I really love the mint green but it needs another pickguard.. So i ended up with the Red one. Some pino vibes

RIGHT?! You got the same color as me and I think they may have done some research on the exact shade of red that makes someone fall in love. It's a bass of absolute beauty.

It would be interesting to compare sound of D5, Squire 50 and Harley Benton PB50, sine 2 others are around $500 and H-B is around $120-$130
I watched LowEndLobster's video and D5 seems underwhelming. Sure, it looks great and I'm sure it's well crafted, no issues there.
However, in terms of sound, the bass sounds generic and uninspiring. My thought was: "it's not what I expected from P 51". It's possible replacing the pickup with a single coil and putting some flats on it would improve the sound, but... I don't know.
What do you all think?

Yeah these basses really want to be played. I took my P5 to a jam last night and finally got to use my Aggie Tone Hammer 350 and Accugroove Tri112 in an actual playing scenario (literally have been spending the last year and a half or so with my little 50w Orange combo amp - which sounds great, but it was nice to crank things up and shake the ground a bit. I really like the flexibility of the P5's tone control, which is something I've criticized the active Sires. 100% gives you lots of grit and clank, IMO a bit harsher than my MIM Fender. Great for when you want to dial in some 'teeth'. 50% tone is just right for your typical P bass sound.
Very interesting! I've been favoring the P5 quite a bit personally. The D5 is really nice, but the P5 is exceptional IMO. I restrung the D5 with some rounds yesterday for the review, but I already have a quick release Albridge fender style bridge for it en route and will 100000% be popping some LaBella Deep Talkins on 'er! The thing that I compliment Sires for the most is their 'bones'. Out of the box they're very solid instruments (and yes, I still consider the P5 exceptional), but IMO they really shine with some mods. My V7 vintage with the Sadowsky preamp, DiMarzio Area J pickups, and the upgraded hardware is my absolute favorite Jazz bass - and I have no worries of taking it anywhere! If it gets struck by lightning, I can just put together another one. For $500, the '5' series is a double threat - VERY good of the box but also absolutely monstrous with mods!
