The Aviation Enthusiasts Thread!

A couple of weeks ago I got to go for a ride in a P-51 in Bremgarten, Germany:

Very jealous! Such amazing aircraft!

I built most versions of the Mosquito as a kid, but I don't recognize this version; which one is it?

The Mozzie is a NF MkXVII. It's the old 1/48 Tamiya kit - a very good one too.

Here's an F9F. It has the markings of the Navy's first jet on jet kill of a Mig 15.

The Thunderbolt I posted is Robert Johnson's Penrod and Sam.

Johnson was the first ETO pilot to surpass Eddie Rickenbacker's 26 kills. This is more impressive when you consider the fact that he did this in the early war when the Luftwaffe still was a serious force to be reckoned with. On June 6 1944 Johnson was on a transport back to the States.

I have a lot more planes and if y'all would like I can take some more pix and upload them.

Thanx,

- mac

Thanks very much, Mac.

Here's a site that has a lot of old model kits like the ones I used to build.
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I can't get the page with the Monogram 1/48 scale Mosquito kit I built half a dozen times to come up, but if you type mosquito in the search box it should come up.

And yes, post more pics of your models; I'd love to see them! :hyper:

I think Revell just did a new tool 1/48 Mosquito. Not sure why, the Tamiya kit is outstanding.

I just realized I did upload a bunch of pix a while ago in my PhotoBucket:

Dick Best's SBD-3 Douglas Dauntless - Battle of Midway. Interesting history on this one:

If anyone is interested I do commission modeling work. Very reasonable pricing. I really need the money too! :hmm:

Thanx - Enjoy.

IDK, the Mig 29 is pretty sleek looking as is the new Euro Fighter.

The Russian stuff is pretty sexy. I prefer the Sukhoi. The Typhoon doesn't look horrible. I think the US stuff is just......meh. Stealth aircraft are just ugly. No curves.....just bizarre angles. Good for scattering radar, bad for aesthetics. Not to say that ugly isn't good. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the A-10.

Warplanes have gotten uglier than my ex-wife's attitude.
While the F-22 and F-35 are quite ugly, IMO, slightly older airframes like the F-14, F-15, F-16, F/A-18 are incredibly sexy.

Most of the third and fourth generation fighters are attractive aircraft, especially the MiG-29, Eurofighter Typhoon, Su-27, Su-33, etc.

Fifth generation fighters, IMO, are uglier than sin, however, they server their purpose, being stealth.

Having been recently up close and personal with the F-35 at Lockheed, I gotta say, it looks like it ate too many sandwiches or something. Not as sleek or aggressive-looking as the Raptor, which I actually think looks amazing.
