Shedding the light on this issue may result in some potential cancelled orders (or at least reduced interest) in KB's basses. I think Todd mentioned that at least a couple of TBers cancelled KB orders already.
At first, I would think that this would be bad for Ken. Maybe enough negative press would convince him that refunding the purchase price and taking the bass back would be the right thing to do (it is!). You would also think that it may result in a better future for KB basses - doing the math you could probably figure that refunding the $4.2K for a bass gone bad may result in at least that much or more profit from non-cancelled orders.
But....then I remembered that Ken loses money on the basses he builds. So, he may actually see some benefit in the reduction of new orders.
My band played up in Neveda City over the summer (which I think is very close to KB Basses) - and it's beautiful up there in the foothills. Maybe he's just out hiking and mountain biking when he should be in the shop building basses.

DITTO~! And Ken . . . you mentioned NOTHING as far as YOUR other communications with Tod. I've read your statements Ken, and you need to step away from this as a business because you mucked up in TOO MANY WAYS.Brendan said:

Wow. I just read this entire thread, I had been following it for awhile when you started it, and just noticed KB posted here awhile back.

There is no discussing, no matter if the bass plays and feels good, YOU DID NOT SEND THE PRODUCT THAT WAS PAID FOR. hes been a leach at the bartolini booth a few times but not for the better part of a decade.

but I contacted chris stambaugh about fixing the bass to close what it was supposed to be
and As I though It was around $700.00
but I may be able to work out a b2b Trade with him instead of forking up even more cash!
chris is great (and 99% its him to do the work) he'll do me right!
I will however be putting a piece of black tape over the KB on the headstock, forever!
it'll be fixed early on 2007 if it dosent sell!

On a side note, I've recently begun working with fellow TBer Hambone on my first custom bass project (Invalid Link Removed), and he's been exceptional in terms of communication and cooperation. (just figured I'd throw that in there to brighten things up a bit)

I actually saw this at Brian's booth at a show and thought it looked pretty nice. I didn't look at the back of it or touch it. It looked well made from where I was standing and the finish looked fine. I'm not doubting any of Todd's account or opinions on the bass, but I think he has alot of bad feelings about Ken directed toward the bass. I'm not saying the bass is exactly what he wanted or that its perfect, but its certainly not a DP or Wishbass!
I hope you find some love for it Todd and that Stambaugh gets it somewhat satisfactory!!!

I read that lost post after the other bebensee post,
the finish looks fine because
I steel wooled it for 3 solid hours. and thats the second time i did that.
everyone got to see how assy it was at the SE GTG.
up close and personal I made sure of that.
and side note:
ken actually called brian to ask his opinion to see if I was just an A-hole and the bass spoke for itself it was worse than a DP of old. and he said
he would refund me the $$ andfor brian not to sell it
he never called or email me about that and that was last december
what a stand up guy
after the second batch of steel wool and 3 hours of my life I
uncovered about 15 cracks in that muddy ziricote on the back and a crack in one of the knobs, with witness to this fact.
I was in a life threatening accident last year and I needed money and good news and ken just added insult to injustice and now the repair is going to be a grand and I'll still NEVER be able to sell it.
(chris stambaugh has his work cut out definately. fixing that mess)

that guy in the other thread waited 10 years for a 3 month bass.
I have built 10 basses in the last few months just to see how hard it is and its a joke. ESpecially without a spray finish should only take a month and a half.

I am also recreating this (rudy I)exact bass just for ken.
