I've never checked the validity of this but I heard growing up that Dunkin Donuts were the first to go from doughnut to donut and their popularity was so big they changed the spelling of it in the dictionary. If that is true it's wild to me that years later they would throw the word that legit changed the spelling of it right into a bin and say to start calling them "dunkin"Aren’t doughnuts made of dough (not “do”)?
