THE BONGO CLUB (Part 2, 3 and infinity)

Just got my first Bongo, and spent the weekend using it to peel the paint off of the walls. It's a Pearl Blue Bongo 5 HSp, and I love it. Is anyone here using flat wounds on their Bongo? If so which ones are you using and how do you like the tone compared to the EB slinky's their usually strung with?

Oh yeah, can I have a number, here's the pic:

I have LaBella flats on mine. LB760FL-B. I prefer them because there is a lot of sliding in the music I play. No zing. Easier on the fingers. I miss the growl, but other than that the flats do not take anything away from the unique sound of the Bongo. In my opinion.

Congrats on the HSp... the Piezo offers a tone unique unto itself. I have a couple basses with piezo including a Bongo 4Hp.

Flats are especially awesome with piezo.

I've played a variety of flats on my Bongo's and enjoyed them all... TI Jazz Flats, Labella DTF, Labella low tension flats, GHS Precision Flats and Chromes. They all have completely different sound and feel.

I miss the earthy thud of the GHS Precision Flats... so I'm pulling the current Slinky Nickel Rounds and puttin' them back on.

Thanks for rekindling my love of Bongo's with flats :bassist:

I'm going to have to check out the Labellas, I've never used them but they get a lot of recommendations. I have a set of Rotosound 77 Monel flatwounds that I bought in anticipation of getting my Bongo, I'll try them first.

I'm going to try a set of Rotosound 77 Monel flatwounds on mine. I love the tone with the rounds it came with, but they are so loud when I slide. I'm not sure it'll be worth losing the growl, but it can't hurt to try.

I just got my first Bongo today; my first new bass in 15 years. That's the Candy Red. Without even haggling, they offered it to me for $100 less than the price on the website, and the website price was much below the nearest competition. I had no idea how this would happen other than that people are holding out for the maple fretboard but for the price the fretboard color wasn't a dealbreaker so I bought it for a great price.

Coincidentally, I just got the pool table in the background today, a table for which I have been waiting for about 6 months! A mid-late 60's Brunswick Gold Crown II.
