Interesting P'Thrash, but are you sure this isn't one of Dog's morphed-up creations? I can't imagine getting much deep bass without any cab depth, but I'll hold judgment until I know more. Gotta admit it would be a true one-trip in/one-trip out scenario.

Nice review, Pup. I especially liked the image that went with. It gave me something to have as reference when reading your entry. I'm looking at the Vox amp thinking it's the communion box or something, and then reading it was the only sound that the congregation heard a few weeks ago. Unbelievable! Obviously, the spirits of Christmas are helping out because your hall looks pretty decent in size.

The balcony pic was intended to give scale to my narrative. Yes, that's why I almost don't believe it, either, except that I was there to hear it. The altar, with the open Bible, covers the JBL subwoofer which was not working 3 weeks ago.

Have you doctored up the line out's tone at all or are still running clean? What's your gain and volume settings? Are you noticing any breakup or is it totally clean? Do you regularly place a cloverleaf on top of the amp in question? Dish out the dirt, Doggie!

No doctoring of the Direct Out, yet. But, I'm not thrilled with the soundman's tone, so I might break out the Bass Pod. So far, all knobs are at noon to ensure a nice clean tone, though I did push the mids and volume a bit 3 weeks ago, about 1-2 o'clock. It's a very high gain amp, like I've never owned before, and can get real dirty real easy. No cloverleaf, just prayer.

BTW, you are killing me. I'm busily shopping for combos and heads right now and just when I sorta decide on something you show up with yet another miraculous tale of this nine-pounder doing the job of a much larger amp. M, can you believe this guy? She wants one too.

Hey, I'm as bumfuzzled as anyone! I wanted/still want, a Rumble Studio 40! Then @Killed_by_Death stirs up this ultralight in my hour of need. And, I hate to say it but, I'm glad he did!

Final question: what other amp would you say it sounds sort of like? I'm hearing Ampeg when I listen to it on YT, but I want to know what it makes you think of. Can you knock the mids and highs and give it a more Fenderish tons? I'm thinking like baby Bassman?

Having been an unabashed Fender fan for at least 55 years, certainly the classic Fender tone is what I'm always looking for. That's why I run half-throttle on this little beast to get there. I agree with KbD that it's got a Marshall grind vibe about it at higher settings, in a credibly tubey way.

Okay, I'm done with the interrogation. Who's next? If I do grab one, it probably won't be until after Christmas. MF isn't getting them in until this week, I believe.

Keep the reviews coming in, particularly if the VX50ba begins to levitate. Then I am buying one for sure!

Wow! I've never seen that before. Looks like a modern bass version of my cousin's ancient Sears Silvertone guitar & case. By modern, I mean, a 50+ watt amp with extension cab capability but, quite capable of hanging with an acoustic guitar "as is".

Is this available anywhere, or a one off you made/lucked into?

I have two rigs: One is a Peavey Max 115 that I bought because it's pretty easy to move around. The other is a Delta Bass through a 1x15 cab that is also pretty easy to move around, but is a little heavier than the combo.

I ain't no spring chicken and I don't play loud rock gigs anymore. I sold my big rig a few years ago.

I was playing behind an acoustic pianist so the volume was low enough to not blow the speakers. The amp was sufficiently heavy to give me a workout every time I hadda lift it into the car. Sounded good for a non-bass amp.

Current gig is property management, so sadly the upholstery shop is idle for now. But with the advancement of lightweight technology, the case amps do have their place now, maybe Peavey will bring them back... and do a bass version this time.

Look at the current Vox technology, and imagine merging that with the Peavey chainsaw cases.

It would work, those cases had tons of unused space that could be engineered for deep bass.

If I get the Rumble 40 or 800 it'll be because of the recording capability. All those models drive me crazy in that I spend more time monkeying around than playing. There are some YT vids out there that do a decent job of letting you hear what those amps have to offer, and I must say some are really nice.

Classy looking bass, and if you're getting upright out of it, just too cool! This brought back a pleasant memory:

A "sounds like an upright bass" experience I was extremely lucky to enjoy one Sunday. Wish it had been video taped ; )

Was at my Hammond Mentor's house in San Jose, CA, and one of his friends comes over, this was around 1992...

He was an very elderly gentleman that had played piano and Hammond for a living when he was very young, in Vaudville, for Burlesque. Just too cool.

So we had been working in the "library" room, and he sits down, a little liqoured up, and fires up Mike's "souped-up" 1935 Hammond Model "A." (B3 Pre-Amp, B3 Draw-Bars, Waterfall Keys, Percussion...) It was ran into a Leslie 30A (the first model Leslie, complete with its original paper mache' horn) and a Leslie 31H, and a Hammond HR40 AND a Hammond PR40...

These were set up in the four corners of the room, with the two Model A's next to each other in the center, one stock, one wild.

For those that have no idea what that means:

There was another youngster my age there that day, he played Hammond in a Greatful Dead cover band...

John was feeling good (he was well into his eighties) and just started smokin' the Hammond, even playing both manuals with one hand, while also playing both manuals, with the other hand!

Stunning Talent.

SUDDENLY leaning back he grabbed both sides of the organ bench with both hands, smiled really wide, and did a mean as hell bass solo with his dress shoes on the pedal board, slides and all.

He was on his way home from Church, and was wearing a 3 piece suit for this.

Very classy, and very Entertaining!

Our jaws hit the floor.

Afterwards we all agreed, it had sounded like an upright bass was in the room being played by someone that REALLY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

I have never seen, or heard, any other organist play like him, Old School PRO.
