You’re over-thinking. My point was just that many norms don’t apply there. I wanted a foil and there it was.
Well, gee, norms certainly don't apply on Bizarro World!
But, heck, if you wanted a foil, just ask! I'd give you my hat!!

Now this is someone I can look up to. Especially if he’s sitting on the top of all those combos! Sir, do you still own all these or this a family album spanning the years?
Hnz, you are Combo Club member #328. Wear it proudly.
We'd love to hear (and/or see) more about your combo, bass, and musical journeys. And whatever else you'd like to share within TalkBass guidelines. Personally, I'd love to hear what you thought of each of those amps - especially the Traynor Bass Mate.
Great to meet you, and to hear how happy you were with your sound at that gig! You certainly went through the gear to find your sound, but you found it, so congratulations! Thanks, Miles!
To answer your question(s) in short:
I used to be a drummer! Since my childhood I studied and played drums and percussion and even was admitted to the coservatory. I chose an other path however. Later in life I switched to bass and found my 'destiny'.
Over the 20+ years that I play I have owned and tried many basses and amps, cabs, effects before I found my 'happiness', which is a simple precision bass and a good sounding amp without any extra's.
I now use my '78 Aria Precision with DR Hibeams most of the time. For some things I switch to my Tokai Hard puncher with LaBella Low Tension flats and for small sit down gigs I use a Mustang bass. I play a fretless jazz bass in an other band as well.
Since some weeks now I use the Hartke KB15 in case we play a stage with FOH. When we play bars and clubs without a FOH I use a tube head, either Marshall 50 watt or Peaveay 160 watt, both with a Yamaha 15" and 8" PA speaker.
The Traynor Bass Mate was one of my first amps. It sounded great, but did not cope with the volume of the bluesband I played in at that time.
Regrettably I did not appreciate enough at the time to hold on to it. I sold it to a collector of old tube amps who was over the moon with it.
Kinda quiet here. People trying to figger out new TB?Great to meet you, and to hear how happy you were with your sound at that gig! You certainly went through the gear to find your sound, but you found it, so congratulations!
It's too modern for me, but I figgered out a coupla shortcuts. Prolly not designed that way, but they work for me. I go back to "ALERTS" or "WATCHED THREADS".Indeed, it may be too modern for some of us…
Don’t get me started. You seriously want me to go on and on and on about my combo’s?Kinda quiet here. People trying to figger out new TB?
You mean like these? (Rumble 100 added after this shot)Don’t get me started. You seriously want me to go on and on and on about my combo’s?

And the Peavey exhaust still on the garage door....
It's not all that different to me. <shrug>Kinda quiet here. People trying to figger out new TB?
Unless you want it to become the Old Fogey's club, it needs to change at least somewhat with the times.Indeed, it may be too modern for some of us…
Pretty please? With a Gibson tube combo on top?Don’t get me started. You seriously want me to go on and on and on about my combo’s?
