Speaking of combos and new and old homes
My local bass student's marriage ended, and she is now in an apartment. There is no room in her new, small place for the Ampeg BA108v2+ I loaned her to get started. I really wouldn't know what to do if I had to replace that amp. The only thing it is missing that would make it perfect is a Post-EQ DI for silent recording. Now that would be some kind of awesome.
I'll see my student again, no doubt, no doubt. There are ~50 other students I coach online, and that certainly takes a chunk of my week. As ways to pass weeks go, I'm calling it a good deal.
One of the things I look forward to with the return of the BA108v2+ is it will free an AUX IN. The two lines in on my DAW are in use. I use the mic to pick up the metronome for the livestream.
Which means I've been using the DI on the Elf to join online classes. It's been really kind of nice because the Elf has so much character. With that in mind
with the kind of low volume stuff I aim for, an Elf combo would rock my world. At less than half the weight of the PJB combo, the Elf would really be a grab 'n go.

I settle for the little 'Peg back and see my local student again when her life settles out a bit.

Congrats, GP! I’ll bet that’s a load off your…mind. They’ll never be able to take your memories away, plus it may start getting played again.
Also, thanks for posting something. I tried finding the page a while back and couldn’t. Then I forgot about it until tonight. Are you guys using invisa-spray on the clubhouse or what?
No news from me to write about. 1-3” of snow coming in on Friday after a few days in the fifties last week.
Oh yeah, this question is for M. Do you ever use your ‘Peg combo in the monitor position? I seem to remember your pics have it vertical, but I wondered if you have tried it as a wedge?
The reason I’m asking is I always use it as a monitor until its turn last time, when I sat it upright. Even though it was floor-level, I thought it sounded way better, particularly the mids. I expected the low-end to be beefier, and it was, but the overall tone really improved. Let me know if you’ve done any experimenting and what your results were. Thanks!

Yes, I have used the BA108v2 as a monitor wedge, and it works great!
Working with limited room here. It it will probably go where it used to live: on top of two PJB Cab 27s. The Elf will go on top of the 'Peg. I'll run the DI out from the PJB combo again.

I have no idea what Ampeg did wrong because they put pure 'Peg DNA in a 99 spacebucks amp. If it had a post-EQ DI, I would use it.

Hogan's Heroes is what I watch when I roll into my hotel from work in New Bedford. It is unwind time. Soon the hotel breakfast will be open, and then it's time for bed. I pray the project manager doesn't call me at 9 am instead of waiting until I come in that afternoon. Good times? This is what I think of when I hear Hogan's Heroes.
The little Ampeg BA108v2 is my milk chocolate amp. A/B it at the same volume level as the Elf ... The little 'Peg is warm and pillowy. The Elf through the PJB Cab 27 pair is authoritative. No wonder I like it lol.
I do not know how (LOUD-era) Ampeg got so much goodness into a 99 spacebucks amp.
The current Ampeg RB-108 is double the price (okay, mine is 9 or 10 years old), has top mounted controls, and has no separate Volume for the AUX IN. I wouldn't know what to replace mine with.
Impressive, Morrighan. I 100% agree with you on the DI wish. These are exactly the amps that should have one. It's totally happy in the studio or practice room, and though you could mic it up, it's so much easier to run the preamp straight to the board or DAW. And don't forget, this one in particular is special because of the improved speaker!
Been away awhile, mostly playing out and practicing with two Folky/Americana type bands (here in gringolandia of San Miguel de Allende, GTO, Mex). I needed to get something lighter than my Rumble200cV3. Hauling it up and down our cobble streets carrying a backpack of cables, stands, tablets, and then the bass….70+ lbs…well, it was wearing me out at age 70. I really considered the new Double 4 Plus at ridiculously low weight. But, nobody (in all of Mexico…?) had or was interested in getting one in to try. So, at a few gigs, several bassists I really respect here were using the Rumble 40. After checking the price at 1/2 the Double 4+, only 18 lbs and shipped to me in 2 days… I am now a Very Happy two-Rumble kind of guy. It worked perfectly Friday night in a 60 person venue and no FOH. Volume at 1 o’clock, Gain at 2 o’clock, vintage and a little overdrive on Darden Smith’s Levee Song.
