Let's hear from those of you had gigs this weekend. How'd it go?

We did an art show out in the hill country yesterday - a bit to the west of Austin. Originally we were hoping for this to be an outdoor gig but Spring in Texas is a crap shoot for the weather. Anyhoo... this was with the originals band I'm in. I finally got down to gigging my fretless Warwick (Corvette) as it fits well with this band, but I went ampless, as did everyone else. Mesa Subay D-800 DI straight to the board. Our drummer came prepared with both his acoustic and electronic kit but electronic won out as it rained and rained and rained. We played inside a barn in fairly tight quarters with the painters. Not what we were hoping for but everyone really seemed to enjoy the music and I know we all enjoyed playing. Rain finally slacked off shortly before load out which was good timing. A friend of guitarist buddy got his Tesla stuck in the muck and he finally ended up having to get pulled out (after several fruitless attempts to get him out by digging, putting bricks under the tires, etc.).

On the way home my wife and I followed the drummer and his wife to this place. Oh! If you're ever around these parts I highly recommend it. Fantastic BBQ. I'll be eating the leftovers today at some point, but as of this moment I'm not even close to being ready to eat. Hope y'all had good gigs also.

I'm back in the combo fold. I did get my Acoustic head and I've paired it with two Eden cabs. I A/B'ed the Acoustic stack with my Peavey/Vox Frankin combo the latter won that tone battle. That was a bit disappointing, but I'm celebrating the tone of my Peavey/Vox and happy that I have two fully functional large amps! Must look on the positive side!

Count, how the heck are ya? I think your plan is a great one. You know what you need, and don’t, and decided to pursue it your way. To me, once a combo liver, always one. My guess is you’ll, at some point, end up back at a combo amp as an alternative to your present rig. Equipment is so darn cheap right now that a lucky hand at poker can score you a brand new 50-watt practice amp.

GP will love reading that you now possess a T’bird!

The only comparable place anywhere near me(75 miles +/-)is closed on Sundays, which-after seeing those pics-is prolly just as well.

Last night was our sorta monthly VFW gig. Coulda used the R40 but the R200c needed to go out for a night-and it sounds so good, even kinda 'squashed'(G-8[off], V-10-ish); other EQ, to the room. Playing for older crowd so no need to burst eardrums-ours or theirs. Nice hours, too: 6:30-9:30, home in time for some NHL.
On another note, kinda glad that no one around here has any of the new Peavey bass amps in stock. I might be tempted to suspend my boycott and snag a Max 150. Oh, well, save the bucks for something necessary-like beer. Happy National Beer Day!!

Not church, but another deeply spiritual gig this weekend! My latest grandson was born late Thursday night and my & Mrs. Dog's mission, which we chose to accept, was to prepare meals and <ugh!> clean cat litter boxes in prep for his Saturday homecoming. Every bit as rewarding as playing a new bass thru a new amp with The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show! We sang "If I Fell" and "I Will" to his coos between feedings. It don't get no better!

mj2, good to see your post. Thanks for responding to my request. You, my friend, just had to say BBQ and you had me reading closely. Glad the band had fun playing though it did sound pretty tight in terms of space. I hope the Tesla survived! Thanks again for your gig summary.

Doctor, thank you for stopping by as well. I need to know about this Battle of Tone you did. I was Leary when you mentioned you were picking up the Acoustic amp; they’ve been a real mixed with owners. I really thought the Edens were the strong point. Did you say once you ran the Vox with the Eden pair? I know you’re restricted by tonal options.

If you ever decide to up and sell the entire entourage, you have to audition the Fender Stage 800. You may find it your final purchase, unless you’re like me and love buying gear. I think you’d find it what you’re looking for.

Thanks for checking in, GP. I think you like playing through your 200 no matter what size venue! Have you gotten the chance to play through a new Peavey combo? I’m curious to why you’re feeling tempted. I also wonder how it stacks up against the 200? So many questions...

Ahh, Grandpa Dog...congratulations from the Combo Club and myself. That young man definitely looks like a newbie. Starting him off with Beatles music is always a great way to begin a new life. Enjoy that grand baby and get back to your bass when you’ve got the time.

On another note, it seems that a Electro-Harmonix bass mono synth pedal I just bought died. In the manual they sent with the pedal it warned to only use the adaptor that came with it. I instead used a multi unit adaptor. The EH adaptor is rated at 9.6v-200ma and my adaptor was 9v-200ma. Anyone have experience frying a pedal by using the wrong adaptor?

I’m a real pariah... everything thats wrong in this world!! I use 2-MB combos... a CMD121P on top of a CMD151P... BUT- have my backup amp & ext cab. all together

You know what you may want to consider: picking up the TE 2 X 8 cabinet and make that your everything rig, besides your PJB gear. That cab has gotten awesome reviews and, as you said, would be a perfect fit, both physically and sonically. Either that or grab Doggie’s Studio 40. It’s a keeper.

Yeah, I don't know for sure. I'm sending it back to the seller to check it out and see what was the cause. I will report back when I hear something.

staurosjohn, welcome to the Combo Club! I’m not near my membership list, but I don’t believe you’ve verb assigned a number, because you deserve one for your creative use of combo amps! Don’t think of yourself as a pariah, but more of a unique innovator. Michelangelo was misunderstood as well...let me know if you’d like to join in case you haven’t already.
