The Combo Club

Need to get a number..... Playing a Michal Kelly ABG and lined fretless Jazz Bass through a new Rumble 200cV3.

Hey JPD! And a number you’ll be getting as soon as I talk my carcass into getting up outta my chair and head to Command Central. A very sweet rig you have there too, covering all bases. Thanks for stopping in the Club!

I love the tone I'm getting now, but I'm not sure if you would or if you would want to incur the expense to get it. My tone is the result of running my Vox CL head as a preamp into a Peavey Max 150. What I would recommend is a 15 inch driver. Seems to be the best fit for a violin bass.

Hey There, Doc. It’s all depending what I do with the birthday present. I’m tempted to not get anything too large since I think it’ll be sitting in the man cave, but I know a 15 is loved with that bass.

I was just reading some old TB posts where the most popular amp was the Ampeg BR-100. I’m sure that’s what you’re thinking in terms of great tone.

The hunt continues; thanks for your two cents.

...and I’m doing just that...
Happy Birthday @iagtrplyr (Fearless Leader)! Slightly in advance.

Thank you to my compadre and fellow Stage 800 buddy. I had tongue totally planted in cheek with that salutary recommendation, but sincerely accept it in the spirit it was given.

So are ya taking a breath between all the gigging or have you settled down to just playing out six out of seven days a week? ;)

Unisex???

SR! Another one of the club’s gangsters of love. It’s need to be hearing from everyone tonight. How’ve ya been? Thanks for dropping in and being part of the magic.

My good spirits, in case anyone's wondering, is I finished with school today for the summer! Room’s all cleaned up, curriculum is mostly in order (a little bit to do later this month), and my contract is in the central office where it looks as they’ll be stuck with me for yet another year.

In other words, it’s time to play some bass!

I've never used an Ampeg, so I wouldn't know anything about their tone. Good tone is a bit subjective. For example, I like some dirt in my tone due to the influence of Geddy. I'll have to post a sample at some point.

Congratulations are in order for JDPsma, who became our 138th club member as of just a few minutes ago. Your good, my bassian brotha, is quite obvious. Enjoy hobnobbing with your fellow wizards. Welcome, JDPsma!

GP, one my favorite authors on this here forum. Hope you’re still happily playing in the cool climes of Florida. Thank you so very much for the well wish.

Tonight I saw a Kasino combo for sale on the GC site and immediately thought of your garage door. Weird, huh?
Nah, makes perfect sense.

Club members,

It's been quite a while since I've released the updated membership list and my apologies for that. It gives me great honor to present the latest family roll call. BTW, I'm shooting for a total of 151 members by the end of summer. That would give us a hundred new members since my coming aboard and I think it'd be a great club goal. New members, talk us up on Talkbass and receive a free cigar band from Giffro. Psst...worried I am, Giff thinks it's a club membership ring of some sort, but 'Doggie doesn't want to upset him 'cuz he's cool like that, so play along.

Ah well, yes.

Cows, always cows and one really doesn't have to look very far for cows. Cows are a pretty big deal, just ask Invalid Link Removed. <- morrighan clue So they gave the kid a few coins and off she goes to find Magic Beans in the form of two shots of espresso. As we take stock of the day - for my closest friends will soon be taking their espresso in the Italian Alps because I'm in the States for the moment owing to [hilarity ensues]

My Phil Jones BG-400 Suitcase Compact is here today

and thinking of me as she shares what I see when I have coffee on Achill. Okay it's not the BG--400 whut took the picture today but my wonderful friend who informs me she is on her way to Spain. She'll be sending the amp after that and has all my blessings and more. It's all connected just fine, everything is as it should be except I miss Achill dearly, almost as much as I miss being in Italy right now too All Good Things In All Good Time

Beautiful scenery. Was this taken outside Schenectady?

Please do, Doc, I'd like to hear it. I should do so as well. I'm telling ya, man, this hollow body is all I can think about, except when I have to take out the garbage. I think about that then. The tone is bewitching, the ease of play is bewildering. These Labellas are some of the best flatwounds I've ever laid my fingers on, and I've used those strings before. It's an enchanted setup I'm telling ya! Now I need to find the glass slipper to Cinderella's dainty foot and I know it's out there.

Depending on which Ampeg you play through, they can be an ultimate bass amp. An Ampeg is an Ampeg. If I didn't like my Markbass as much as I do, I'd be playing through an Ampeg again.

I see your point, gsg, but mine's the opposite of yours. I keep buying Markbass (spending too much $ on it), only to lose interest after a while and sell it. Of course, that's me too. Sooner or later I return to my Ampeg roots where I tend to be my happiest. I'm currently out of 'Peg right now, but it's on the short list. Glad you're digging your MB though. :hyper:

That's great! To be enchanted by an instrument like that is a complex joy. I hope you find the right one!

For my final performance this evening and before I leave you all, I would like to submit to pictures of myself. Pic #1 is your usual spouse-taken shot of hubby looking to be content. Pic #2 is for Giff so he can have some fun with it. This past Wednesday at my grandson's baseball game where the five-year-old (going on 20) granddaughter decided to anoint those watching the game with valentines stickers (note the cheek) and a heart stamper which she proceeded to plaster my left leg with. Nothing like fun at the old ball game. Enjoy!

I played through one MB and was thoroughly unimpressed, esp. for that kinda $. Out of consideration for the owner-I was sitting in-I didn't fool with his settings. I'm certain(?)I coulda gotten a decent sound out of it if I'd had the time to mess with it. But for the price I could get 2 Rumble 100's and daisy chain them when needed or use one at a time otherwise. Plus, fully admitting I'm shallow, I don't like the look of the MB(sorry).
