Let’s see...right now we have currently waiting to be selected, GP...and that’s it. Must be ‘cuz of summer vacation and all of that jazz.

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. When I said "the last one", I meant "or something".
Greetings from the Midwest where it once again is raining. I knew I shouldn't have gotten rid of that darn ark last summer. Oh well, onto bigger news and views.
1) G'Dog and I are packing our knapsacks for a weekend trek to the highest mountains in the land. Why do you ask? We've decided we need to go somewhere peaceful, serene, and without a Burger King in order to create A List of Settings of Various Combos, The List of Settings for Various Combos, or something called Something (GP's choice). I'm bringing the S' mores and he's adding a couple of ukelele basses and we will not return until we have something club-worthy for our members. I know, you're thinking, "Wow, Fearless Leader, do ya think you and G'dog 007 can actually create a cool place where we can share settings for our bass amps?" Why yes, young inquisitive person, I do! Just give us some time and a generous donation from our treasury so we can better focus on the task at hand. Hey, 'dog likes to be pampered...
2) Speaking of our former thumb rest store, am I crazy or not (don't answer that)? To my hollow-body bass buddies out there, I'm kicking around the idea of adding a Fender-style thumb rest between my pickups to snag where I feel its true sweet spot. I tend to play at the neck pickup, but am finding if I stretch back to that in-between area it really sounds good. Solid bottom, but with a little more clarity. The sound, to me, at the rear pickup, is interesting with a little burpiness, but still too thin for using it more than just once and a while.
So my question is, has anyone who's experienced what I'm hearing modded their guitars to reach that better sound, or is it tampering with what's by far my favorite tone out of a bass I've ever played? Give me your $0.02. Thanks!

Check out the Hofner Group and the Hollow body group. Someone there crafted a thumbrest for such basses by attaching a small bar to the pickups I think. I post a link but I don't know how on my phone.

Thanks Doc! I’m glad you make house calls. So I’m not crazy, eh? I will take your doctorly advice and search those two groups. My guess is it, the bar, hooks to the pickup to avoid drilling a home in the body. If I had a $3,000 dollar Hofner I might feel the same way too, but my inexpensive bass may not fare as well. I see it in my head as working, but will definitely check opinions before any surgery takes place.

I have some small pieces of rich ebony I have been moving around for 20 years or so. This sounds like a good use for finally cutting into one. I feel the sweet spot for my flJB is also behind the front pup. The front humbucker on my SB-450 was a better perch than the JB pup, may consider adding a rest.....mine, too, is the lower priced version and I plan to build a solid body from the quilted maple I have, several guitars worth. So, small screw holes should be fine and easy on the solid JB with my drill press.
So... here's my latest take on the sometimes-venerated Peavey Combo 300. It was a heavy little beast, so I did a mod... the speaker enclosure is a tad larger now too, so you get a little more air in the lows...
I still need some rubber feet on the bottom of the amp case. But I really do like the sound I get from this little rig, esp with my Epi Thunderbird Classic. It's becoming my star player.

It appears the sweet spot on my Chowny CHB-1 is also right behind the neck pickup. Seems to me it's about where I've been playing mostly anyway and now this. Had to see for myself for sure and going to qualify this -

Uncertain if a thumb rest would be an asset for me, as a couple years practice of floating thumb technique (learned about here at TB) means I'm seldom resting my thumb. And also using my thumb + index -middle together .... More and more I'm working not to dig in as was habit, but to let my amp do the heavy lifting.

Very cool mod! My buddy did that to one of his old solid state Traynor combos (Turning it into a head). I have a Peavey TNT150 and that makes me want to try it!
