That looks like the Denver Coliseum (they all look the same?) from circa ‘74 when my buddy got me a ticket and I did not make it down from Gunnison in time. Looks like his photo, he was waay impressed as the GD seemed to be first at truly having a sound reinforcement system up to the task of Arenas.....

My name is not Phil Lesh and I do not play in front of a Wall of Sound, as depicted in your photo. However, I do own and operate a stereo bass amplifier.

But, I must admit I have yet to take full advantage of it's stereo capabilities, other than a token slaving (via FX Sends & Returns) of two mono amps, a Rumble 500 combo and a Bassman 500 w/115. Unfortunately, at that time, I did not even get to separate those two slave amps very much to fully enjoy the stereo-ness, as it were. Yet I swear, by Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, that it shall, one day, be so!

And on that glorious day, indeed, shall all the shimmer, grind, rumble, warmth, and movement of sounds make all the angelic hosts to shake they heavenly boot-tays!!!

But, seriously, Shirley, I think it's mainly for the special FX, which the Stage and Studio have in abundance. What else?

Oh, and it has two XLR Outs that default to Pre and Post mono, but can be configured to post stereo to let the FOH enhance the show!

You do the Fender family proud with that setup, G’Pup! Though enjoy it through a good pair of cans, I’m still trying to figure out when a live audience feels the rush of a stereo bass. I suppose I’ll be gettin’ an education on it, but the only bass I remember coming with stereo outputs was the Ricky 4001. Again, I have my notebook out and am ready to listen.

Finally, I had an aunt who lived on the third Sun of Warvan and used to tell me stories about how Grabthar’s hammer used to always fall off his pants belt. Very embarrassing at High Council meetings. She later moved to Pittsburgh...

It does boast one of the better airports I've encountered. Which may also be the best I can offer on stereo bass. Except for that Grateful Dead sound system. One of the better airports I've encountered. If you're going to travel Alembic Class, go all the way and make it stereo for sure. For starters.

Sorry Doc, but all good things have to cone to end sometime. For me, this was a fast, exhausting, yet exciting summer. I’m ready to go back to work though to get on a schedule once again. I mean, how many after-lunch naps can one man take? When do begin, Doctor Intrepid? We kick off the year on Friday, the 23rd. One day, then the weekend!

‘Morning Doc. Yes, it might be just what the doctor orders. A new school year brings with it a fresh start, positivity, and, new shoes. It’ll be a good opportunity to immerse yourself in your work which will allow your brain to dwell less on current personal issues. Plus your students will assuredly benefit from the increased dedication. If it sounds like I know what I’m talking about it’s because I’ve walked in your moccasins myself.

As for the more relaxing side of life there’s bass amps! I’ve got my buddy’s Ampeg PF-210 HE hibernating in Ohio and I thought about asking him to bring it out next time he passes through Iowa. Then I add a decent head to it with the hollow-body in mind. My choices in that realm are endless.

The other thought I’m entertaining is to give in, give up, and give myself to the current VOX combo that ‘Dog and KBD own. It’s, to me, a much smarter purchase than the new Superbeetle coming out in the fall. Same power, same driver, easier to schlep, and should work for small-group rehearsals. I need to find out if the NuTube can give me what I want in tone with the Rogue.

Doc, you have that same amp/preamp. Is this the correct prescription for me?

Tiny rigs feel like those tiny houses in that they're now a thing. Folks are gigging with sub-100 watt amps again just like everyone did in the mythical Age of CBS Fender. (Bass archeologists post pics of their fossils here, so guess that's proof of a Time When Rock and Roll Will Never Die) And dinky combos pretty well lead the pack in the Dinky Amp movement.

Doesn't seem to me there's enough room in a tiny house for a couple basses. But if there were, combo amps are there!

The winning Jeopardy! answer phrased as a question for the clue "Steely Dan" eludes me this moment. My personal choice for the time of Four R's is none other than

I'm not going to school!
What do you mean, you're not going to school!
